This is like a newbie question but just want to make sure that I don't burn down my th350......Whats the most accurate way to check fluid level??????Should I drive around and warm up the fluid and then check or should I check it cold???the tranny is in my 83 4x4 GMC if that makes a diferance
you should run the rig around to achieve operating temperature. on level ground, with the engine still running and hot, put it in park, put e-brake on and check fuild level

park, neutral, drive, reverse. it's all the same.
just harder to check the oil when your running away from the truck.
the front pump needs to be pumping to circulate the oil in the trans.
check it in park.

You should also make sure you change the filter frequently to keep it shifting smooth for you. a plugged up filter can make the trani do funny things.
