in the middle of replacing the tailhousing adaptor on my tacobox (Marlin)

I had the original style (no seal, narrow hole) and they sent me the updated style due to leaking issues.

The new adaptor has an aluminum sleeve type seal, that fits between the output shaft of the tranny and the adaptor plate.

Here is the problem. I don't know if I have to remove the tailhousing seal in order to install this new style. No directions on Marlin's site, and no idea on what to do. I don't want to destroy the output seal if I need to use it, and all of the dealerships are closed.

I need to have her buttoned back up come Monday morning.

Anyone change from the old style to the new??? anyone???

When I installed my 'taco supreme' last Feb... it came with the aluminum sleeve and seal that installed into it (seals against the outside of the tranny-crawler female-female coupler). In my Automatic transmission Tacoma, I had to remove the transmission extension housing and remove the OE tranny output shaft bearing and some other slinger or something and then install the aluminum Marlin sleeve into the tranny extension housing. I also had to grind some places on the housing for the 20° rotation to clear the shifter rods. I'm not sure what the 'old' style seal setup used to look like, but the aluminum seal sleeve installed directly into the tranny extension housing. Hope that helps...

it does-ish.

The old style didn't have the sleeve, just the coupler. I assume that the seal, on the output shaft, will come out to install the new sleeve. I just want to make sure before I pull a seal without a replacement.

that's the way it works on the inchworm setup, you pull seal and then install the new seal at the ass end of the sleeve.

got it. The new style marlin adaptor replaces the stock output seal. it wasn't easy getting the stock seal out, with the coupler still installed, but I managed to get it without damaging the output housing.
