Anyone try the new Craftsman Universal wrenches? I saw them in Sears the other day and they look like they might be handy but not sold if they will work well or not. Half of their new design work well in open areas but poorly in spaces they would really be handy..

That's what I was thinking if they worked well enough.

I saw these and it looks to me like more of the same crap that Crapsman keeps cranking out. They seem to be more interested in re-inventing the wheel to create the next best tool rather than improving the quality of the crap they're slinging out now. :mad3: I'm supprised it doesn't have LED's on it somewhere. :shaking:

I'll pass.

Last year when I was on the Matco truck they had this same style wrench.

I thought about buying a set then, but passed. And now these. I'm sure all the tool mfg have a similar set now, or are working a making them.

Atleast now the Craftsman has them they're cheap enough the give them a try.

remember when you broke a crapsman tool and they replaced it,no questions asked?not now.if you brake a ratchet, they won't replace it,but they will give you a rebuild kit for.and that should last about two more weeks.sad, sad, fuckin sad!.last one i broke i told the manager i wanted a new one and he gave me that bullshit about the rebuild,i was ready to fastball that thing through the front window.

done with crapsman tools!

snap on has had them for around a year. i have a few of the popular sizes.

bottom line - they are ok on a good bolt head, but if its rouned off a little it slips. but they do fit and work on many types. i dont use them much. i would rater use the right tool

When my Matco ratchets strip out, the "crapsman" rebuild kits last way longer in them........Go figure:shaking:

I like the new policy as I can rebuild my "crapsman" and Matco ratchets for free.....I told the Matco dealer to GFYS.:flipoff2:

I still use the ratchet today.

I have a set of Proto ratchet wrenches with a similar design. They work well, but as others have mentioned I would rather use a regular wrench to break bolts loose. Also, Proto and Craftsman are different animals so take it for what it's worth.

I have put Proto guts in a Snap-On ratchet though:D

I prefer to use Gearwrench ratchet wrenches. Non reversible hold up the best.

Was this through a "Dealer" (small townish store) or a "Full Line" (much bigger store)? I work at one of the larger Sears and we have a toolbox full of rebuilt ratchets that we have someone inspect and rebuild in the back. We are told to just automatically give out the rebuild ones but if someone insists on a new one instead we are told to let them have a new one. I think its just differences between management of each store and how they want things done.

From what I have seen, Sears is very good to its customers, especially when it comes to tool exchanges. I had no clue what Sears goes through to make their customers happy at pretty much all costs, or at least at my store. Sure, when someone comes in with a shattered 3/4" chrome socket that's obviously been used on an impact I give them a little greif for it being used on an impact, but I still swap it out. The grief is more to make them realize they are using the wrong tool for the wrong job and it could be dangerous. I have heard stories of people being told we wont exchange tools, but its surely not at the store I work at.

Sorry for turning this into a mini rant. There's alot of stuff I'm not a huge fan of when it comes to Sears and working there, but their tool exchange is not anywhere near that list in my book.

**Back on Topic**
After seeing how they fit the display fasteners, I don't think I would feel comfortable using them on regular hex bolts. The torx, 12pt, spline and square styles look like they all have much better contact. I would just be worried about rounding off even slightly rusty hex fasteners with these.

Craftsman has been making those wrenches since the 70's

Here's a picture of the Original

If they are resurecting old tools, I wish they would start making these again (this one isn't a craftsman, but was the first pic I could find of a speed ratchet)
