So I went to the junkyard today and saw some potential rears for the replacement of my Dana 60 rear. There was a 1998 chevy 3500 single rearvan. Also a 89 and 92 ford 350 van. Can some one tell me what axles these might be? I woul tell you more but they all had no tires on and it was difficult seeing under the vans . Thanks

never go to the junk yard w/o a jack and jack stand

True... I was just passing through without actually planning on finding anything

GM is probably a 14 bolt. But be careful as it could be a semi-float which are not very desirable. The Fords are most likely full float Dana 60's. I don't believe the vans went to the Sterling rear until much later.

Definetly is a full float on all three.... Is there a way to tell if the fords would be a Dana 70?

Also, couldn't I just pull the shafts and count splines to tell for a 70 and or 14 bolt? Basically if I count 35 it is good right?

Some 60s had 35 splines, but it's rare and I don't remember in what applications.
D70 uses the same diff cover as a D60, but it will look a bit small generally.
Look for a D60 or D70 stamped on the center section somewhere, it's not a 100% sure thing that they will have anything at all stamped there, but if it is it will tell you what it is. A 14 bolt should be quite obvious. D60 has like a 9.75 or something ring gear... the D70 will be 10.5" if you find one. Pull the diff covers and bring a tape measure.
Also search about axle tube diameters. IIRC all D60s are about the same(like 3.125 or something like that) and D70s are usually 3.5" diameter, except for the D70HD which is 4.0" diameter. That's what I have under my Jeep.

Late model GM vans and Ford vans both used Dana axles.
Watch out though, cause some of them are semi floater 60s.

Watch out for the Dana 61 in the vans, they look alot like the D60.
Ask me how I learnt.......
