That's a sterling, no plug in the cover, fill is through the casting beside the pinion.

because cutting the frame, drive lines, brakelines, bed, ebrake crap is alot more time and expence than doing what he just did.

That rear tank and huge factory bumper had to go. I gained way more departure angle this way and it has been easy so far. Plus let us not forget it is a nice mod for the low low price of FREE :smokin:

i love my bobbed 96. I cut 9" out of my back half (mine was already a shortbed tho). They only part that sucks for me was using the factory tank and moving it up. You will love the dep. angle. :grinpimp:

After this and bumpers I hope to lift it and gear (5.38) it for 46'' claws. I will cut whatever I have to make em fit on 8'' leafs. After THAT I hope to slide in a stak monster 3 speed. Then I will ponder taking more out of the truck wheelbase at that point. Honestly by then I will probably be fabbin up coils or somethin who knows. :shaking:

Kewl I always wanted to do that to a rig. Hmm I had basically same thing on 8" springs and perch with rear shackle flip(so about 12" of lift) and I could barely clear 44 19.5 boggers had to trim back of front fenders. Those rigs don't offer easy fender trimin lol

I fit 40s no problem on my 89 f150 with a sagging 4" rancho. Start cutting, never look back.

Haha I'm not I had the lil versions and the bigger mudders why o why can't they make tires the size printed on em??? I had 38.5 boggs on my 88 and was gonna try my buddys hawgs on 40x17x16.5 and they where less than 38s lol I said hells no. Best thing to do on that body style is to move front axle forward u can clear some big mofo tires then (after ditchin bumper)

I wish I had the money to do a coilover link setup for the front when I lift it, but the leafs are strong and cheap which means sooner!! I need a roll cage, bumpers, winch, gears, and so on first. :shaking:

I sprayed some primer on it, but nothing else yet. I still have to put a little bondo and figure out how I am gonna paint it. But I did wheel it a lil bit and came in second in the crawling at the canadian (river) competition. I won a 100 dollar gift certificate to Tom Woods driveshafts too! I had a blast! The rear bumper I made of scrap metal I have collected. So I have no money in the bumper at all. It is a sealed pipe that will be a small air tank later on. :D

Yeah I think I will change it up a little on the ends. It looks too much like a farm bumper to me. Like I said it was free.

If you plan on using that rear bumper for an air tank you will have to put domed caps on the end. Pressure dosen't like flats or corners.

Really? Whats wrong with the flat ends? I used some natural gas pipe that I picked up off a job. What i did was cut a round piece of 1/4'' plate and seal welded that inside first. Then I put what you see on the ends. What does the pressure do to the ''flat'' stuff?

On anything that holds pressure it needs to have rounded edges. Just like on air compressors. You never see one thats not round. Domes have much more strength and spread the pressure out where as if you weld a flat plate on all the pressure will be consentrated in the corners and can cause a failure. If you go to a weld supply shop you should be able to buy pipe caps that you can just weld on and you will never have a problem. If the plate is thick enough and welded really well you may never have a problem but if it does fail it will be pretty dangerous when it goes off. Just look at anything that holds pressure and you will see that there are no flat spots on the tanks.

Technically Josh is right, but unless your running a couple hundred pounds I wouldn't worry about it. It's called stress amplification, when something is under stress, ie from internal pressure, any sharp angles magnify the stress in that area. Thats why high pressure tanks a rounded, the dome smoothly closes up the, leaving no sharp angles to magnify the stress. but like I said Unless your running high pressure I woudn't worry about it.

That would be the easy way plus a better departure angle! Don't hate on mine because it's a chevy but I did the same thing to a CUCV. I took 14" between the wheels & taillights & was out nothing but sawblades & welder wire and will go places you could never take a shortbox.

my rear bumper is an air tank. it's held 150 psi for weeks. the rest of the system leaks. but the bumper tank with flat ends holds great. i wouldn't put 500 psi in it but for normal pressures it works fine.

I see what josh was saying about the domed ends. But I am not putting 500 psi in this thing. I have been a pipeline welder for 5 years so I know how to make something hold air. I just want to run about 120 psi in it and call it good. He was right however about the domed ends. I have some other changes to do to the ends of it anyway. It looks too much like a farm bumper to me. But it was made for the low low price of FREE. :smokin:
