: Need advice for upgrading my 44

I have a rear D44 from a 67 F100 Ford truck. I am pretty sure they are a 19 spline. The places I've looked offer info on all kinds of 44's with exception to this one. Does anyone know where I can find information on upgrading the shafts to a higher spline count and purchasing new gears for it as well? Do the lockers be it Detroit, ARB, OX or whomever all fit the 44 or are they different from a Ford application to a Jeep 44?
Thanks in advance for the info.
Scott

Verify your spline count before you go too far, that's right around the time that the 19 spline units were being phased out, you never know with Ford though. The carriers available will all fit fine, but if you infact have 19 spline you will need to upgrade shafts, it may be easier to find a different 44.

If you do go with a locker then just buy 30 spline axles to go with it but like he said it might be cheaper to replace the whole thing.

Thanks for the info thus far. I know it'll be more expensive but the axle is out of a truck that was my grandfathers and it has some sentimental value. This will be one expensive axle. :)

A sentimental axle? Okay, I can see keeping a cool old non-runnign truck around for sentimental value, or even just because I like the looks of it. But using an axle for sentimental reasons? Okay dude, you're even more whacked than I am.

Scott If it's a 67 the axle shaft numbers are 24820x and run 1 5/16" shaft with 30 splines on a 29.75" long shaft (Both sides the same).
Get The BOM off of the axle to be sure, also I would pull the shafts to make sure, as Ford did some strange stuff.

Thanks for the info, that sure would be a nice suprise. Can you answer a dumb question for me please, what is the BOM and where do I find it on the Axle?

Thanks again.
