letchcoreCJ7 11-05-2009, 08:43 PM Anyone have some tips? I would like to have some kind of system where I can actually find things when I need them. I was thinking some large plastic bins. Parting out Jeeps I end up with a ton of fasteners, clips, etc....

IDScout 11-05-2009, 09:07 PM Search for military surplus part bins. They had all different sizes to choose from. Most of them are steel and can be had for a song.
Wyoming9 11-06-2009, 02:10 AM Bolt Bins are a must .
McMaster Carr also has a great assortment of plastic compartment boxes .
a hint get labels and label your parts after a few years you have no idea what 3/4 ths of the stuff came from.:grinpimp:
Slowzuki 11-06-2009, 06:57 AM I found a number of things work. For biggish bolts bolt bins are great. Next size down old metal fastener cabinets with divided drawers are good. Small stuff I use big flat plano tackle boxes. You can see through the lids and layout 100-200 type of fasteners easily on a table then they stack onto a shelf nicely.
I also have small medium and large misc bins that I sort into the normal storage about once a year when I'm brain dead.
Mudinyeri 11-06-2009, 07:35 AM I use something like this for small and medium bolts: Stanley Black Plastic Tool Box (http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=238895-46921-014006R&lpage=none) I label the top with the bolt sizes in each compartment.
For larger bolts I have a rolling unit with plastic bins. I got it at Sam's Club but I can't find it one their website now.

I've got a few of these hanging on the wall...they work good. I have 2 bins for every thread pitch....one for long and one for short bolts. I have one bin for washers, one for metric nuts and one for standard nuts...each of these are divided into 5 or so sections for different sizes. It works pretty well.
rocket flier 11-06-2009, 11:12 AM They sell them on wheels too:

If you buy new they are a lil pricey, but if you are like me it's hard to price organization...
Speaking of, I need to get some more bolts :D

If you have nothing now these are cheap and you can get a lot of different sizes. They are plenty strong and durable as long as you aren't filling them up with oil coated stuff.
My local hardware store changed out their plastic bin boxes a number of years ago and I got all the bins I will ever need for 85 bucks. I see a variety of nice hardware storage systems on craigslist from time to time for good prices
carwash 11-08-2009, 12:35 PM I use the HF plastic bins... they are cheap and a great size for nuts/bolts/fasteners, etc...
I have 3 sets of them, lined up on the back wall of the shop... each set has 24 bins.
you can see them in this photo on the far wall...
