: Need Help (question)
Spyder 09-25-2002, 04:34 PM Well after flying through some watery mud pits a week ago i thought id check up on my engine. Well of course, with my luck, there is mud all inside the air filter canister, so i took the number 5 cylinder spark plug off and of course, theres baked on mud on the business end of it, which means there is mud all inside my fawkin engine. How bad is this? I mean i couldn't really tell a difference in the engine. Wth, I mean I knew these beasts were durable but this is crazy. In case u were wonderin the entire engine and engine bay are covered with mud and its a stock FJ-62 with 31" tires and no lift. I was thinkin snorkle but I hit the mud so hard it flew up over the roof, so I doubt it would really help. I'll just turn the canister around and route the intake hose to the firewall and put a shield in front of it to keep mud off. Hot air doesnt bother me I just want it to last.

60seriesguy 09-25-2002, 06:09 PM Other than rust, I can't think of anything WORSE for a Land Cruiser and its longevity than MUD...
Spyder 09-25-2002, 06:27 PM Oh god, how long do you think I have left, its been about 2 or 3 weeks since I last did it.

FIXXXXAH 09-25-2002, 09:20 PM I THINK A LESS VAGUE RESPONCE WOULD BE TO START LOOKING AROUND FOR SOMEONE SWAPPING OUT A STRONG 2F TO PUT IN A 350 AND OFFER THEM $100 FOR IT.... :nuke: :nuke:
Spyder 09-26-2002, 07:03 AM OK thats good, but why, if u all say:nuke: :skull: then why after 3 weeks is it still running fine? Was it that Pro-Long I put in there? lol maybe the commercials where they pour dirt into an open running engine and suck the oil out of it arnet lieing? lol
Mitch
Chemical442 09-26-2002, 07:16 AM Dude, your 62 is toast.
I'll spare you the angst and take it off your hands for $300.

If the Toyota inline 6 is half as durable as the Chevy 350 in my truck, it's no problem. I filled my 350 with silty-water about 4 years ago and it runs fine to this day. Granted, it needs thicker-than-normal oil and holds no pressure, but it starts/runs great.
(how many smacks to I get for the durable comment?!? lol)
IMO, a good cleaning of the exterior of the motor combined with fresh plugs/wires/cap-rotor will serve you fine. The critical issue with any motor is oil pressure. Change it, run for a week, change again. Get a good mechanical gauge on there. To keep the "big" stuff out in the future, steal your SO's old nylons and put over the intake. Prevents the big stuff from entering.
My motor runs on 3 quarts of SAE 50 and 3 quarts of motor syrup/honey. 2psi at idle when warm. Oil pressure is SO last year....lol
Spyder 09-26-2002, 11:16 AM $300, hahahahaha NO. Heh, anyways, thanks for one positive comment, it needs the oil changed anyways, like a 1000 miles over, lol. Its already got new wires with full boot covers on the ends, and there is a big rubber boot concealing the distributor that kept it mud free, and as soon as I can stop having to drive the cruiser as my daily driver im going to garage it for a while and clean off the engine and engine bay, plus whatever mods i can afford at the time before this little 4 cylinder pos beater car gives out.
Thanks, Mitch

You probably just found some normal brown deposit on the plug rather than mud. If there was a lot of mud in it, it would hydro lock. If a little mud got inside it, it won't stay there long. If it runs fine, just pressure wash it and FUGGEDABOUTIT!

It was just a little, and it was watery mud not gooey thick. Its mostly made up of clay and micah or however u spell that. I was hopin it would just run it self clean, so thanks for that comment, and I tried to pressure wash it, but its all baked on, u gotta do it right afterwards in my experience, and i cant crank up the pressure cause of all the little tiny hoses scampering everywhere.
Thanks, Mitch
