hey guys, i was working on another tranny project and i decided to drop the pan and have a look at things. while i had the pan off, i decided to take it to a local shop that produces custom oil pans and scoops for high performance boats to see if i could get my steel transmission pan replicated in aluminum with heat sink fins.
added capacity by using a deeper pan would be very difficult because it would require lowering the tranny filter. added capacity through keeping the same pan depth, but widening the sides of the pan is not possible because the pan would get close to the cats defeating the purpose, and making the pan bolts impossible to access.
so why just a replicated aluminum pan with heat sinks? aluminum simply has better heat dispersion heat better then steel. plus, the 1/2" fins will magnify the dispersion properties over the factory steel transmission pan.
this upgraded pan will effectively lower transmission temps and extend the life of your automatic transmission.
i already gave the thumbs up to have a concept constructed. i should be getting a phone call in about two weeks.
below is NOT a picture of the actual product i plan to recieve, but something similar;

this pan is for 01-04 V6 frontiers with automatic transmissions as far as i know, they are all the same, but please correct me if i am wrong.
projected price may be in the ballpark of $275. i will test the pan on my own truck to ensure an aluminum pan will not leak. of course, the more interest and people there are that buy this pan, the more the price comes down.
if the concept pan works, and there is interest, i will get more information about how to go about a group buy.
any interest?
