There are several important land management meetings coming up later this
week in Ridgecrest. Please try to attend if at all possible.

NORTHERN AND EASTERN MOJAVE PLANNING AREA (NEMO)
Thursday, June 14
6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Ridgecrest City Council Chambers
Kerr-McGee Building
100 W. California Avenue
Ridgecrest, CA

This management plan is for the BLM administered public land around
Ridgecrest that is not included in the West Mojave planning area or within
designated wilderness. Essentially, everything else! This planning area
extends from Dyer Nevada in the north to Needles in the south and includes
the White Mountains, Piper Mountains, Inyo Mountains, Coso Mountains,
Panamint Mountains and other areas. The topic of discussion is the
recently completed Draft Environmental Impact Statement which is currently
open for public review as required by the National Environmental Policy
Act.

DESERT DISTRICT ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING
Friday June 15
7:15 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (field tour)
Saturday June 16
8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (formal session)
Pinnacles Room at the Kerr McGee Center

The field tour will assemble at 7:15 a.m. Friday morning at the Best
Western China Lake Inn parking lot located at 400 S China Lake Blvd.,
Ridgecrest, CA. Members of the public are welcome to participate in the
tour, but should plan on providing their own transportation, drinks, and
lunch.
Agenda items will include an update on BLM's off-highway vehicle (OHV)
program and management related issues, and briefings on the California
Wilderness Coalition's report Off Road to Ruin and the California
Off-Highway Vehicle Grant Program. The agenda also will include a
presentation on the National Landscape Conservation System and the China
Lake Land Use Management Plan and draft environmental impact statement.
WE REALLY NEED A LARGE TURN OUT AT THIS MEETING.

WEST MOJAVE MANAGEMENT PLAN (WEMO)

Kerr-McGee Center
100 California Avenue, Ridgecrest CA 93555

YellowSub:

Thanks for the post.

Here is a quote from a guy at the meeting that really makes me mad:

"It’s outrageous that less than 5% of public lands are available for OHV use, yet 14% of Californians own OHV’s. These are figures heard at the meeting, not confirmed by me, but it’s crazy. Tim Salt announced many new closures, with pride. Not one area was opened, and the attitude was such that to expect such is fantasy.

Over 40% of the BLM’s budget is spent on land acquisition. BUYING PRIVATE LAND WITH OUR GREEN STICKER MONEY! This scares the hell out of me. My money is being used to buy land that I can’t access."
