Spools are to cheap for a 9" to screw around with a Lincoln locker. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/9-Ford-Drag-Race-Steel-Spool-31-Spline-9-Inch-NEW_W0QQitemZ390113862594QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors _Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item5ad49923c2

that dont come close to a arb! dont waste your time. get a mini if you must have it locked for cheap, dont forget a hardened pin to go with it. full spool is way to go!:shaking:

I spent $20 on a minispool - it was easy and fast.

Replace this-

with this-

In an Early Bronco rock'n 35's with the stock 302 it will hold up just fine. If it were anything else - I would go full spool.

74 e.b. stock 302 2 bbl , 44 frt.w/ lockrite, big warn axles , rear 9 in. w/ 31 spline mosers , full spool , 4.56 gears . No issues w/ rear , busted the frt. b4 lockrite , had it welded and exploded both inner & outer , took out u- joint , cracked knuckle , bring the suck . lot better til motor took a shit with over 100,000 miles . Rods knockin and no oil pressure , lost intersest as ridin' areas were closed down . goin back with all chevy one tons and a 383 on 4 links , stretched and all tha 9 yards when funds are better . Getta a full spool and have no worries , include a good hardened cross pin for cheep insurance .

mini spooled 9" is for the people with a light foot, i killed mine in my 78 f150 with no box on the back spinning 31" buckshot mudders with a worn out (350k) 400 on the street. go full spool or leave it open

I don't think I could fit a welding rod in there to weld that if I had to. I gotta see this.

I welded my 9"about a year ago. Its about as simple as they come if you know how a diff works. I would have bought a cheap mini spool but I was backed up on time, wanted to wheel and couldn't find a spool fast. It has been holding up with a fairly heavy foot and 36" mudders. I never spin on pavement though.

You have to tear it down just as far to weld it or mini spool it.

Just weld the spiders together.

that's what I was planning. got any pics?
I've seen and heard of way too many mini spools breaking to use one for this project.

mini spool doesn't last, full spool, or weld it.

Nope....as stated I welded it about a year ago. It has been inside the 3rd member ever since. Im not about to pull it out and take a pic.

look up a few posts there is a picture of one that is not welded...just weld the damn spider gears together. Maybe if you are that worried about it you shouldnt do it, or just drive to Pittsburgh and I will do it for you if you supply the beer and my hourly rate.

Look for pics of a welded 14 bolt or rockwell if you can't find pics of a 9 inch the process is the same for all three.Ian on xtreme 4x4 welded a rockwell see if you can find the video.

Welding a 9" is a pita. buy a mini spool. I welded one once when I didn't realize how cheap they are. I have an extra, I would give you, new in bag in Washington.
