Hi all, new to the list and have a question.

Just lifted my 2002 F250 PSD 4x4 CC with 4" lift leafs in the front and 6" blocks in rear. I have a shudder or hopping vibration "chatter" from the rear due to drive line angle I suppose. Carrier bearing shim? Any tips? I plan to call the local shop who performed the lift for info too. I also plan to go back in 250 miles or so to have the whole works retorqued at their request. Will the shuddering wear my u-joints quick enough to worry about in the mean time? As you can tell I'm unfamiliar with the shim procedure so any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Your right it should be the drive saft angle, when I liftd an old 79 F250 it had the same problem. To fix it all we did was cut a peace of 1 inch square tubing and put in inbetween the Carrier bearing and the frame, it worked great.

Hmm, could you describe that in greater detail? I don't know where you are talking about the frame and carrier bearing. Thanks!

I have lifted a lot of these. It is definitely the carrier bearing. You have 2 driveshafts in the rear. Where the two shafts meet there is a carrier bearing. The carrier bearing attaches to the frame and allows the shaft to spin inside of it. You fix this by putting a spacer between the carrier bearing and the frame to lower it. To do it yourself you can order kits from any of the suspension manufacturers. I like Fabtech's the best because it comes with shims to adjust the drop. The other kits come with a bracket with a set amount of drop, if its not the right amount youre just out of luck. Of course you could make one yourself. It should probably be dropped about 3/4" - 1".

Auburn, Alabama? Only a stones throw from me. Thanks for your post, makes the whole mess very clear now. I located a measured drawing of the shem measurements (2" wide, 7 3/4" long with two half inch holes) on Ford-Diesel.com today and asked my local metal fab shop to mill me some 1/4 inch thick steel plate shims. I will stack them as needed under the carrier bearing on Saturday. Thanks very much for the info!
