Been reading reviews all damn day, everything on the market is so varied in it's quality it seems like rolling the dice and getting 1000 rounds of either gold or shit.

Definatly going to pick up another K of steel cased for plinking, but want to get some better quality ammo as well. XM193 is out, sure it's loaded to nato spec, but it is seconds and too many complaints about it's quality. ATI has some M855 spec for a good price, but few reviews so far since it's fairly new to the market. Privi has some good reviews, just a matter of finding a deal on it, preferably somewhere that has a deal on other stuff as well. Found a good deal on some M193 Adcom, but the bad reviews outnumber the good by a decent margin.

Too many choices, and too much variety in QC. What's supposed to be great one year turns to crap the next or costs an arm and a leg.

Just a rant.

Too many damn choices.

Just go to AIMSURPLUS and order what you like. No one is going to beat their price, and they seem to be stand up guys.

I was just going to suggest AIM. See if you can't wait until they do penny shipping again.

Wideners is supposedly getting some Israeli 5.56/223. They are making a big deal about how awesome it is, so I suspect they'll be asking too much $$ for it.

Trust me, I'm glad to have options again.

From all the searching today, it looks like Aim has some of the best prices going, it's just a matter of which to choose. Definatly picking up a K or two of the Tula steel cased .223 for $215 ea. From looking around it's Wolf in a different box, and cheaper than when I got my first K of Wolf a couple years ago.

This is definatly a consideration as well. I've gone through a couple K of IMI .45 and it's good stuff. More recently the IMI available in the US was seconds and basically crap, glad to get some first class ammo back in the market. I may wait to see what the price is like, supposed to hit their site on the 11th of this month, I may have to skate out of a meeting and place an order during the work day before the vultures buy em out.

Barring that option, it's probably going to be ATI SS109 (M885) at $10.95 per box of 30 at Aim.

How does federal bulk .223 compare to the fancy schmancy stuff? It's the only thing I have shot in quantity- am I missing out on something?

I shot 300+ of it yesterday, it aint bad, just expensive for what it is. Even at wally world prices, with tax it's over $0.43 a round. It's got a lower velocity than the nato stuff, and not real consistant. Good range ammo unless you are shooting for groups, but you can get better stuff for less when you buy in bulk online, it's just a matter of figuring out what to drop dime on.

Figure the Tula stuff for plinking at the range, with shipping will work out to $0.25 per round, and you can get nato loaded M885 for $0.40 per round with shipping. XM193 is a bit less, about $0.35 per round with shipping.

I was picking up a box of the fed at wally world here and there, untill I realised I was spending the equivelent of $430 per K.

Federal rifle brass is usually a bit on the soft side.

I've just been buying PMC at the local Sportsman's... or a few other good brands. Price is right for us too. 10mm is the only ammo I have to order, and I just order from Georgia Arms or Double tap

Palmetto State Armory has PMC for $339/1k +$12 shipping . I'll probably buy a case and try it out since I need brass anyway. Cheapest I can reload is ~15 cents a round for components not including brass or $.25 cents with brass.

Might just buy a Lee 1000 just for .223 and start cranking it out since the first 1k rounds would pay for it.

This may help search for deals: http://gun-deals.com/ammo, and it includes a shipping estimator.
