Last year pre running for the King of the Hammers course I stumbled upon a very promising outcropping of rocks. This year I spent some time on Google earth finding routes to give the racers a taste of something new. Mark Mathews (Turtle Truck) is helping me scout locations this year for KOH, and we have had a grand time running around JV. It was a priviledge to spot him and co dog the complete running of Crow bar for the first time. It turns out Mark has been eye balling the same pile of rocks, and in our travels we have had plenty of time to explore the area.
In doing so we believe we have a potential route of travel that will be many miles long and offer varied degrees of difficulty. We are calling this hidden gem, the "Valley of the Kings". Each obsticle will have the name of a King. Of course at some point we will use the names of King of the hammers winners as well. But first I would like to share a few pictures of Elvis.
Elvis is the first section we broke. Scott Porter an OG13 member who will not be racing this year ran up it first, with Don Mcdonald, and Recovery Doug helping out as well. Mark and I hiked it and showed the way. The trail will take a bunch of trips to complete, and we will need to do it in sections.
Elvis is ready to go, it took very little work, but gave the non moon buggy and non rear steer cars a work out.
This very well could be part of the 2010 KOH race so I am not going to give the location yet. If you know it, consider yourself in the Know, and please keep it on the down low. Our goal is to offer an amazing experience for the Griffin king of the Hammers. New trails is part of that offering.
