Ok, i'll try this again. When i lift my xj 4.5 inches, what needs to be replaced, ie- upper and lower arms, or just lower arms? and what should i do about the steering, anything? thanks, sam.

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say your other post didn't just disappear on its own. ;) :D

uppers are good for that much lift, but lowers will have to go IMO. Steering should be okay since the pitman is all ready dropped. Do the lift with adjustable lower control arms then get an alignment.

Geez...... first of all, ya need to understand that this ain't really the right place to ask this question. This board is geared for the hard-core gang.

Secondly, you just haven't supplied anywhere near enough info. What year? D/C changed the tcase output in 97 and those are almost impossible to lift without an SYE. What transfer case do you have? Are you starting with the Up Country suspension?

4.5" will be the limit without significant steering mods and you'll be pushing it (expect to eat TREs.) Lower control arms for sure, and probably uppers as well. New shocks. New front coils, you don't want a 4" spacer. New rear leafs, a-a-ls won't give you that much lift, and XJ springs are too soft for blocks. Your front driveshaft will probably be fine, but you'll have to check the engagement of your rear driveshaft. OTOH, if you do an SYE, you've fixed that problem.
