: Auto Welding Helmet being triggered by work light

Being in Maine, without a garage means having to sometimes work outside when it's starting to get dark. Other times, I have to work under a vehicle and try to weld.

I'm having trouble illuminating my work without it triggering my helmet. I tried a halogen work light, as well as a regular old 100W drop light. Short of using a flashlight, is there something I'm missing?

I read somewhere about using a fluorescent light. Would those work better?

I'm using a HF helmet. Yes, I know they are cheap, and yes that's all I can afford right now. The sensitivity adjustment doesn't seem to make any difference.

Thanks guys

Well I see a couple of options. Loses the work light, get a better, helmet, or get a fixed shade. You might also try a different style of work light. Depending on the frequency range the detector on the helmet responds it may be less responcible to LEDs, or flouresent bults. Probably will not help as HF uses a cheap detector, but its forth a shot if you happen to have a spare work light laying around
