I have a 71 fj-40,sbc,4wdb,t400,ARB's,4"sua,longfields,35" STT's--I think that's enough info for you! I have an OEM 3-speed t-case that slips out of low range on decel. I still have the vac shifter for 4WD, and the underdash lever for hi-lo. It does not seem to happen in 4-hi, only 4-lo. I have checked the linkage, and it is adjusted properly. If you manually hold the knob it will stay in, but if not it does not take long before it pops into nuetral. It does not have to be an exTreme decel either, just coming down a pretty normal 2wd road. Can someone please tell me what component in the t-case causes this, so I can address it? I have no problem tearing into the case, I would just like to know what to look for! One more issue for you GURU's out there! I have mini truck disc conversion on the front, and Cruiser Outfitters disc conversion on the rear. Factory single diaghram booster & m/c. The problem I have is if I am on a steep incline or decline it takes a massive amount of foot pressure to hold on the hill. Everything is new oem, calipers, pads, reman booster etc. Please shoot me some ideas on how to improve this!! Thanks

As far as your brakes go , you might want to try different master . one from a 93 fjz 80 without abs should work good (they have a bigger bore and should bolt right up ) . You may need a proportioning valve for the rear ( maybe not ) I don't have one and mine works fine . Your t-case sounds like you have some wear on your synchronizing ring on your low speed gear . I guess you could try a rebuild but it may not help . You could also try to bump up the spring pressure on the detent ball in the hi-lo selector . I'm not sure how that would affect your vacu-shift mechanism though . It sounds like your rig isn't stock , I'd maybe consider going to a manual shift nose cone and see if that helps .

Pop the top cover off the t-case and look at the fork. It will have a screw held with a cotter pin. Remove that and tighten the screw a turn or so. check to see if it is a more definite shift. Re-assemble and go for it. you may also take the screw out and the spring and head to OSH and see if there is a heavier spring you can put in there.
Beyond that, you may need to tear in to it more to replace the bushing on the low speed gear.
