Just ran across a set of D-30 axels for my 86 CJ-7. Short of pulling mine out now, what is the best source for specs (measurements, spline count etc.) to confirm they right.

I don't understand the question. One, why would you want to put d30's in your CJ? wo, which axle are you anting information on?
