Put a shell in it and kill kitty! :D Occasionally dry firing a Mauser won't hurt it. Repeated dry firing could snap the tip off of the firing pin. Be sure the gun is unloaded.........With the safty off, and the bolt open, close the bolt while holding the trigger down, and lock the bolt. This will let the tension off of the firing pin, and you can pull the trigger to your hearts content. Just go Pow every time you do. :D

You got a pic of your Mauser 98? I inherited a rifle from my stepdad that passed away and I was told its a Mauser and it has a 98 marking on it. Just want to see if mine looks like yours

i have never seen your rifle, but the odds of it matching someone else who has a 98 are pretty slim as there are a shit ton of custom mausers out there on 98 actions. if its all original, thats a different story...but you havent divulged that info yet..... :D

It doesnt look to custom to me, just the big scope thats on it. Ill post pics later when I get home. Ill start a different thread on it so I dont clog this one.

If it's a K98 with a "big scope" on it, something has definitely been done. Original is this:

DOesnt look like that, ill post pics later.

The only reason im calling it a mauser is because of a list of the guns we found in his safe. All the names match the ones on the list the only one in question is this rifle I have since theres hardly any markings on it.

most likely someone sporterized your mauser. changed stocks, added a scope mount and scope, etc. still could be a great shooting rifle and a nice piece to own.:smokin:

Mine is a 1917 Modelo Chileno

Originally 7mm Mauser with matching serial numbers but dark ugly bore. Definately not a collector but a $100 surplus warrior. Nice 80-year old walnut stock though, and it still sweats cosmoline on a hot day. :smokin: Cut down fore stock, no hand guard. Thats the bad, ugly part. The part that matters, 27-inch Douglas barrel, Dayton Traister (sp?) trigger, custom ream and head space to 6.5-06. Cut and turned the bolt, smoothed the action. Little old man in Roseville put it together. Hand loads from a custom Lee Precision die made from a fired case. My loads are tight. A pic of the gun will bring a :barf: Took my first deer with it up in Skrewzer's neck of the woods.

a buddy has a Turkish 98 Mauser in 8MM up for grabs, looks a tad rough outside..all original, even the sling. BUT--the BORE is beuatimus...nice sharp crip lands and grooves...GREAT shooter and he is including a bandolier of ... turkish 8mm ammo on strippers...I think it is 80 or 85 rds.

oh, yeah, he is asking $170 for it all.

I prefer NOT to mail this thing around the country, so if you are coming to shoot, bring some cash and tell me you are interested.

Remembered something. Isn't it safe to put a spent, empty case with a shot primer in it and use that as a "snap cap ?"

SHit I haven't used any ordinance since we moved three years ago. All my loading stuff is still in boxes. :shaking:

I guess here in the interim years, with the passage of time and laws, my powder and bullets have appreciated :cookie:

Import marks or a bring-back?

CAI import mark, very tiny right side of bbl at front of stock...

funny, they marked it "1938 german 8mm" when is it clearly a 1943 turkish rifle.

I would not worry about it, in the past 40 years of dry firing 98s I have not had one break yet.

Model 47 "Yugo" Intermediate Ring in 8mm, Original and Matching Serials

and,

1912 Model 98 in 6.5-06

Uglieness but cheap and dirty :cookie:

The Yugo duplicates the "scout guns" that were the rage a while back.
