some local boys did something similar...suppressed 308 bolt action...LER scope, night vision goggles...between teh two of them, they whacked over 100 hogs in one weekend. from some elevated platforms where they had 360* shot capability, they just kept turning around and shooting.

If you think that's fun you should try stalking them in the daylight.:smokin:
To this day the best meal I have ever eaten in my entire life was BBQ'd wild pig when I was about 12 years old.

Halogrinder
11-15-2009, 06:19 PM
i would chase them in teh day time if they didnt have so much fawking space to run around here, and if the brush was on the property im easily allowed on.

i hate having to jump field fences of barb wire, and walking mah ass off :D

instead of thermal (i want i want i want i want) you think a decent night vision would work as well?

that thermal monocular headgear (or night vision headgear), would you be able to peer down a set of sights or thru a scope or something? i never dabbled with them, short of an old skool russion monocular peice of shit that manually focused.

A laser sight or a spotlight would do the trick. Hell, a full moon would work with a scoped rifle.

i drop an empty mag of 30 @ groups of 10 and normally net 2-3 at a time if im lucky. normally its lean down on one once you know he's hit.

im tellin ya man these fuckers are tough to kill and tough to hit when they run 30mph!

Well, being the sceptical person I am at times, it doesn't actually show in one time frame, him getting 7 pigs. It shows shooting, break of frames, and then 7 pigs piled up. He could have hunted all day, shooting throughout the day, and then piled all the pigs up.

Just writing. :D

oh i agree. if it was all one clip, cool, but yea they could have either tracked them for a bit or a days worth of hunting.

i never got more than 3 in one night :(

im planning on changin that soon

i think a gen 3/4 night vision setup for about 5K might be a suitable alternative.

I just looked it up too.

On that subject I have a 1st gen equivalent NVG monocular from Bushnell that pretty much sucks for anything past 80-100 yards and the "spotlight" feature sucks the juice and isn't much of a help. Would an IR filter for a 1,000,000 candle power spotlight help? Would it need and IR bulb too or instead?

Halogrinder
11-18-2009, 06:54 AM
the problem with gen 1 is just that, its gen 1.

i have a russian gen 1 monocular, and its pointless practically.

im going gen3 or better :smokin:

Out of pure curiosity... do all of the piggies get processed or is part of this just the fun of killing an over abundance of them?

Here is FL they are pretty thick in the swamps and typically regarded as a shit animal - tearing up farms and stuff...

What I'm getting at is this - I really don't like to eat hog but I LOVE killing them. Are they usually handled as a varmit type kill?

Halogrinder

look maybe we can get 10 guys to pitch in 1000 bucks each to buy one, and share it one month at a time?

Zombies may be dead, but there would have to be some heat if they have movement. Reanimated dead must produce energy somehow.
Besides, their undead flesh will absorb heat differently than their surroundings, so I think IR is a go for zombie hunting.
