Buddy of mine wants to get rid of a 74 D200 4x4, auto, extra cab. Didn't know if anyone offhand could rattle off axles, what side the diff is on in front, tranny. Just looking for specs, has lockout hubs on the front. What does a D200 equate to?

A D200 is a 2wd A W200 is 4wd. The engine is most likely a 318 but could also be a 360. The transmission an A727 with a divorced np205 if it is a 4wd. The rear axle is a DANA 60. The front can be either a DANA 44(light duty) or a DANA 60 (heavy duty). The 200 means it is a 3/4 ton. The front axle will also have drum brakes instead of disc.

Alrighty, so D is 2wd and W is 4x4? it is a 4x4, auto with the 360. So what you are sayiing is 727 torqueflight, 205 Tcase, possibly dual 60's with the pumpkin on the pass side. Are the 60's of a weak spline count normally? Sounds like a steal, what should I look out for weakness wise?

Most W200s came with Dana 44s in the front, but as was mentioned earlier, the front 60 was a heavy duty option. The Dana 60s are usually 30 spline shafts, a few HDs had 35.

the front diff is most likely a d44 and the only prob with dodge d44's is the wheel bearings are to close together and wear easily with big tires...you can switch knuckles out off most any other model d44 anyway and then get disc brakes too....other than that its strong.......also the rear is most likely a d60 30 spline...I've been running mine (from a 72 d200[yes a 4x2]in my 4x4 with 36" tires) and beating the sh** out of it for years.....it's strong <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">
