After several years of wheeling with various stages of a short arm lift and a 30/35, then a 30/44 locked/locked, it is time to take the pile off of the street and build for tougher trails and maybe some local competitions.

Plans are:
79 hp60 front, 60 rear
10'' stretch using a combination of clayton and ballistic parts
4link in the rear, 3link with a panhard in the front
full hydro
tf999
flipped 300
Comp Cage by Appalachian Offroad

Constructive criticism appreciated.

Here is what I started with, a Locked/Locked short armed TJ on 35's

Gas tank is out, rear roller 35 goes in tomorrow

Trans is in, converter still needs to be bolted up.

The cinder block mount is custom, it will be upgraded to a ratchet strap, and then finally a new crossmember.

Made some progress this weekend, the end is no where near in sight but we did get a lot done on the rear 4 link, and got a rough comp cut done, just a little grinding left to do on the comp cut. And the rear needs to be disassembled to completely finish welding it.

BIG THANKS TO Dave and Skyler for his help and the use of his trailer.

No thank you to the deadskins for the traffic I had to drive through on the way home , but at least they won for you skins' fans.

Now for the pictures

Comp Cut and bracket removal; This is where I learned I'm buying a bigger grinder and a Plasma cutter is great to have.

Mocking the rear

Some Finished Pics, these are pretty much ride height for the rear, the front is sucked down a little.

All and all everything went pretty smooth. Only a few hang ups, undecided on whether or not we like the rear coils, needs some testing, and I might just pull the trigger on air shocks for the rear.

Any suggestions as to which cable shifters to use for a flipped 300? are there any that I will be able to use down the road on an atlas?

Travis what size tires are you planning on running? I would be concerned with the amount of up travel with those coils and the stock frame. From the pictures it looks like you may be hitting the upper crossmember or frame rails with about 5" up up travel.

As for the shifters, here's a vendor that makes a great kit:

Or you can use Atlas shifts on the D300 if you make brackets for it.

most likely running 39'' reds. I am hoping 5'' of up will be enough, possibly will be going to a two inch lift coil in the rear, but the main goal is keeping it low. Also a good possibility that the coils will get ditched in favor of air shocks in the rear before this thing hits the trail.

Are you planning on racing or competing at RC or just a trail toy?

I guess I should update this as it has been quite awhile. Since starting this rework I have gotten married, bought a house, and most unfortunately for the jeep my wife has become a full time student again. I have been chipping away at the jeep, and it is currently sitting at AOI getting a cage and some front suspension work.

Here are a few pictures of how it is sitting now.

Lost some time ( about 2 months ) waiting on some parts, you'll never guess which vendor. Jeep is just about ready to come home to be finished up in my garage. I hope to wheel late summer.

Mike at AOI has done some awesome work on the front end. Heading up to the shop tomorrow to disassemble , finish weld and reassemble.

Valve Body and Steering wheel disconnect showed up today

Looking for 39'' Reds in the MD VA PA area.

I scored a 300 with a downeastoffroad flip kit already installed, splines on the input are a little boogered but I have two spare 300's sitting under my workbench so I'll just swap it out.

Brought the pile home today. I cannot say enough good things about the work that Mike Bosley at AOI has done on the front 3-link and Cage. Very Very happy how the front end turned out. Pulled part of the dash out, don't want to start removing to many wires etc until its running again.

Plenty of painting on axles, frame, and cage

I feel like I'm not going to get a whole lot of sleep the next couple of months.

Waiting on one last clayton link, brake lines, calipers, rotors, and cutting brakes, pulling the trans and t-case for hopefully the final time next week.

Busy lately. Pulling things apart for clean up and paint, still hvac is most of the way out, front axle is out and painted. knuckles are on the way, shafts are ordered still waiting on the front upper link from clayton. Ordered rear brakes. Hope to order fuel cell, brakelines, cutting brakes and a rear drive shaft this week. Hoping to make the last big dogs of the year. I'm sure I've left some stuff out.

more progress slowly but surely. front tube work and frame is painted, new belly pan and engine skid is painted, pile of assorted parts have arrived from brown santa. the reassembly of the front end starts just as soon as the paint is dry. picking up a trans pan and hopefully figuring our the fuel cell tomorrow.

I just picked up a D300 for my TJ and have been reading that the 999 will interfere with it. Not sure if this still applies to you with the 60 though

gonna run a two piece front shaft. I could use a conventional shaft but would have to limit my down travel some. I want to say that tom woods makes a smaller diameter front shaft just for this application but to me a two piece seemed simple and made the most sense.

Progress slowly but surely. Front end is all painted and sitting at full bump again. Front axle is stripped to c's clean up and paint tomorrow. I was thrilled to discover that the driverside upper king pin was stripped, it just lifts in and out of the C. Looks like I need to order some reid inner c's. I have heard of some people just welding them back in but I am not sure which way I want to go. Don't want to get bit in the ass down the road. Belly Pan and Engine Skid are here and Painted, Power Steering, and Trans Cooler have arrived as well. Tires just showed up on Friday  . Hope to bore the rear spindles this weekend.
