..I know this is a bit of a newbie question!..But a second opinion would help. Heres the deal...Went around a corner about a week ago..lots of throttle, tires spinning ( detroit locker )..Then the drivetrain stopped "hooking up"...Something sounded like it was " winding "up..Then after a second ..it " hooked " back up.....Never did it again..Than last night driving home..." grind..grind..slip..pushing on gas...engine rpm's up...not going anywhere!...Baby'd it home...Now she will not go anywhere in drive...reverse works when in 4-hi or 4-lo ( hubs not locked )...but nothing forward!!....This is a 76 Blazer with mildly built 350...turbo 350 with shift kit...NP-203 with part-time kit (probally dead)...Question...if the chain is stretched and skipping teeth or broke teeth...Will the truck still drive in reverse?

Could be your TH350 is due for a rebuild, or, you could have cracked the bellhousing and when you try to drive, the engine is pushing the trans back, disengaging the pump, in reverse the the trans pushes toward the motor and drives, kinda, but not for long. I know it sounds funny, but I actually broke an auto trans in half and that's what it did. Or your 203 is ready to do the job it was meant for, keep someone's boat from drifting away.
The grinding noise was coming from the transfercase...A buddy is coming over to put it through the gears while a lay under it!!..Any ideas that its NOT the transfer case!?

start draining fluid, it sounds like you will figure out which it is easily that way if its grinding.
I'm leaning toward the tranny now!!..looks like that might be the promblem!!..DAMNIT!!!!!!!

laying under it while your buddy runs through the gears is a really good way to earn a darwin award......

.....It's pretty big...So if it took off ..I think I would be "OK"...Grinding noise is coming from the front of the tranny /rear of engine...No go in forward..No promblem in reverse!

I know exactly what your talking about because I did the same thing last month to my TH350. First off the engine reving when you went around the corner....your trans is low on fluid (or the pump was just plain going out), when you go around the corner, all the fluid goes to one side of the pan, the pump runs dry, the tranny slips. As you straighten out the fluid sloshes back the pump picks it up building presure again and the trans locks back up. The last time you did it the same thing happened but this time the motor reved too high, when the pump built pressure back up it hooked hard and busted the forward sprag. I did the same thing but I did it in a hole rocking it back and forth.

speaking from expierence if i were you i would step up to a th400. i went through 3- th350's before realizing that what i needed to do was go to a 400. just change your output on the tranny and an adapter and your good to go. with some minor t-case shifter modifying. or if you like to drive the highway throw in a 700r4. thats my 2 bits -Grant
