Pappa Smurf 09-26-2002, 08:49 PM copy calminis the front is nice and tucked up there:p
twistedmetal 09-27-2002, 04:56 PM Well, they'll cost you $400-$600, but my bumpers are designed after Tribal Tattoos(hence the name Twisted Metal). MATTS will be posting some pics of one of my earlier "creations" in GENERAL 4x4 discussion soon.
marcutah 09-28-2002, 08:18 PM Almost finished with mine, think youll all be impressed took a few days to make it, Mig welder ran out of gas at the START! So I had to ARC weld it and im not such a great welder. I had to grind alot of crap off the front to give it a smooth look. Ill post pics when im finished think you guys will like it.
oh ya and :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

I did the search or I wouldnt be asking :flipoff2: ;) :flipoff2:
marcutah 10-01-2002, 11:28 AM Well its done and drying in the garage, will install later tonight or tommrow as its cold and raining here in utah. Ill get some pics when I install it.
Question, the bumper weighs 100 lbs almost on the dot, will this be a major problem? its made of 1/4 steel, this is a 95 tracker rated at about 105 horses maybe 110. I think total weight is 2600 lbs. Ill throw some pics up soon. Im thinkig of selling it to a buddy and building a 3/16 Bumper around the same size. lemme know.
Im planning on adding a A shaped Tire carrier as well.
Bobzooki 10-02-2002, 05:43 AM Originally posted by marcutah

Not bloody likely - try 96 pale and anemic, underfed wheezing horses at SEA LEVEL. Take it up to Salt Lake, and about 10 of them ponies drop dead from the increased altitude.
On the other hand, my 2-door 95 has no problem with the 100 pound bumper, or the 70 pound winch, but when I threw the Goodyear Wrangler MT/R's at 31 X 10.50 on, I found out right away why Calmini sells 5.83:1 R & P's! Talk about gutless!!! Now 5th gear is only good for downhill, or dead level ground.
marcutah 10-02-2002, 06:09 PM With the Cold air intake (K&N Cone)/ Ram air I have set up im pulling about 110 on a dyno meter or whatever its called, plus new header and FLowmaster with 2.5" pipe I think bone stock is 90ish Horses on a regular 1600 with the california 16 valve its about 95 or 96 like you said.
I just installed the bumper and I have pics. I can email em to anyone to put them on a URL for posting? or sugest a good free pic site ?
I can always put them on MSN groups I have setup except they have been down for like a week for uploading pics.
I was hoping 100 lbs for a Rear bumper was ok with everything minus tire carrier, I think Carrier will add 25 lbs to 30 lbs.

Ugh now I dont look forward to this, I am going to 32" MTR or 32" BFG MT. Currently running 29.5 BFG AT with no Suspension lift yet, still holding out ans saving up for the calmini 3"
Pappa Smurf 10-02-2002, 06:17 PM is yours two door or 4 do a strait axle conversion it will probaly cost less than calmini lift:p

2 door, and if I can straight axle it in 1-2 days with help Id do it. Its my only car. I cant risk having it disabled for very long. Anyone in Utah wanna spend a few days with me :-) And what kind of lift could I do it I straight axled it?

Yeah, yeah, yeah, well I'm keeping the IFS because I CAN. If I wanted a Sami (and they're great little trucklets), I would have bought one. I'm on kind of a mission here to see how far I can take the IFS. Planning on taking it through Steel Bender and Metal Masher at Moab later this month. We shall see.
twistedmetal 10-04-2002, 09:58 AM Hey, I'm cool with that! Nothin' more fun than doing things that others say you can't!
yager 10-04-2002, 10:35 AM 1/4" steel on a zuke/kick !!!!! WOW
That 1 ton truck material !!! Man i had 1/8" on my damn jeep bumper, ya it would dent but with proper design/construction it'll only go so far... 3/16 is major overkill.. !! wow just make sure hooks or rings get tied in well and should be fine...
drop some # and see how powerfull these tiny motors really are...
I mean really whats a bumper for... balist? :flipoff2:
"ahhh ya, bob I decided i needed to kill those 5" coils so i droped on 300 more lbs... looks great ehh? Ya really testing out that belly pan too.....!"
Happy Friday !!!

yager 10-04-2002, 10:44 AM hey bob zuki whats the specs on your rig? what mods etc? Link to more pics?
I've been looking at a kick for a 2nd mild wheeler/ DD too.
Hows it holding up to wheeling?
I remember seeing Kerrys Kick on 33s at PTF-01' and it was hammered bad but still going strong... He carried a spare front IFS unit... Is that the main weak link? In you opion whats the max tire size the CVs will realisticlly handle with out constant repairs? Im thinking 35" MTR?

 no shite!
i got a piece of 3/16" steel plate for my belly pan armour at a place called "Metal Supermarket" (:smokin: ) and thought to self as i was putting it in the back of the 'Zuk- "man, i getting old. lil ol' hunk a steel, an i havin to be careful i don't drop it"
thought it was about 75 lbs at the most- it was over 110 pounds when i weighed it.:rasta:
lucky i didn't have to have it shipped anywhere:D
granted, i'll be trimming and chopping it down, but urgh! didn't realize how quickly the pounds add up!:(

OK, it's a 95 2-door. Calmini 3" body lift, and 3" suspension lift. Calmini Winch Bumper (3/16" steel, and HEAVY). Warn M6000 winch. Calmini Header on the 16 valve engine. K&N flat panel filter in stock air box. Safari snorkel - get the freakin air intake OUT of the wheel well! Spidertrax custom rock sliders. Umm... Let's see - running Goodyear Wrangler MT/R's in 31 X 10.50 on 15 X 8 rims with 2-3/4" backspacing (cheap from Spidertrax). On order: Full Calmini belly armor, and steering stabilizer, and rear bumper with spare tire swing. Right now, I've removed the rear seat, and I've bolted the spare down in the back - that's a heavy SOB to have bouncing around!
How's it wheel? REALLY well, considering I haven't touched the gearing yet, and still running open diff's! GOT to get the 5.83 R&P's to get 5th gear back on the highway, and a new gear set in the transfer case to lower the ratio for crawling...
I haven't gotten stuck on anything yet, wheeling around the Colorado Front Range. We'll see how she does in Moab in 3 weeks! Sorry, no links (not even any recent photo's!)

I think im going to stick with IFS, I have been over Metal Masher, Poison spider and Golden Spike in Moab several times. You will run into major problemon metal masher with no Lockers, a obstacle we had to winch over, clearance isnt a problem really as it was a short VERY steep angle up on top. I have some video of us trying and leaving a TON of rubber.
I can do Poison spider with alot of hitting the rocks on the frame with 29.5 inch tires 0 suspension and 3 inch body, just takes alot of control and a heavy foot on the gas.
Bob thats a really nice Kick, its what im shooting for Calmini Front bumper, stabilizer, ARB front and Rear. Warn 6000 winch, also the 3 inch suspension from Calmini.
Have another question, do you reccomend the coil spacers from Rocky mountain WITH the Suspension lift? Im planning on putting 33" Tires under my Tracker with 5.83 (from calmini) with some minor trimming. I have a massive body lift atm so not sure how much trimming ill need.
Also 1/4 was major overkill, but its all I had laying around, It looks and feels nice. Ill possibly rebuild another one at 3/16 and sell the 1/4 We will have to see how it works out.
For pictures check out my other thread PICS (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=85372)
Shrock 10-04-2002, 02:47 PM My rear bumper with the quarter panel wrap is 3/16" and only weighs 47lbs. I gave a piece of 11ga (AKA .120 or 1/8") 2x4 a half-hearted love tap with a BFH and it dented, so I use 3/16" now. It only adds about 9lbs.
I would have to agree that 1/4" is double overkill though. :D
marcutah 10-04-2002, 02:51 PM Thats a nice looking byumper, looks alot like my brothers on his 91 Cherokee. Keep in mind this was my FIRST time welding with a arc welder, and first time doing a solo project like this alone. Not too bad, has a few places where I could have done better and got it straighter. My next one will be 3/16 :-P Ill also flush the Hitch in the Bumper completly and have the pin access below it.
Shrock 10-04-2002, 03:18 PM I'd say that was a great job for a first project.
I usually flush mount the hitch too. That guy just wanted it to stick out to use as a step. Here is an example:
Those clevis tabs are 3/4" bar stock, extend all the way though the bumper and are welded on both sides BTW. See I'm not immune to overkill either. :D
Shrock 10-04-2002, 03:26 PM PS, keep a spool of flux core wire around for when you run out of gas at a bad time.
marcutah 10-04-2002, 03:28 PM Ill throw some pics up of the Cherokke when I get home, it also has 2 cleavis mounted on the rear like that.
Bobzooki 10-07-2002, 06:03 AM Here's the Gnewt in action. Note one front wheel spinning - still open diffs...
Bobzooki 10-07-2002, 06:06 AM Gere's the latest, playing in the snow (well a little snow anyway) this weekend. She's got her new red ears, but the belly armor is still on order...
Also, you get a good view of the Spidertrax rock sliders...

When I got her, the green plastic shell over the driver's side mirror was broken, I got a good deal on the red mirrors, so now she's a "red-eared gnewt"

marcutah 10-07-2002, 07:18 PM Hey Bob you strengthened my resolve, I LOVE your kick, very awesome.
Its exactly what im going for. I am going to Trim and try to fit 33" under there, looks like all im missing is my Suspension lift, Front bumper and winch and a snorkle. Check out my newest pics at
new pics (http://groups.msn.com/Smiths4x4PicturesAdventures/marcs95trackersidekick.msnw?albumlist=2)
I am also going to put a Trac lock in the rear and arb in the front, in due time :-) Im thinking of it in this order, Suspension lift, Rear locker, front locker then winch and bumper. Or if I see a deal ill grab it.
And again /bow I love your ride man

For what it costs, you could get yourself a Arc Welder, albeit a AC one. And attempt to make one :-) Front bumper is worth the buy for the Winch mount and look, rear throw some 3/16 up there and call it good :-)

No, you don't understand. I'm a WOODworker. If I start working with metal, I become a BLOOD DONOR. Being a high-priced computer consultant, my hands are very valuable to my family, so metal work is strongly discouraged!
When Calmini finally gets around to making that swing-arm bumper, I'll be able to get the spare out of the back - I removed the back seat, and bolted it down there, and put in the Tuffy Security Rear Storage Drawer, and Herculiner the entire back, including diamond-plate panels, instead of the vinyl over cardboard crap.
If I get some spare time, I'd like to put in a 4-door Sidekick 14.5 gallon gas tank, and raise it - lots of room after the 3" body lift. I also want to fit ZukBoys fender flares to it - the Samurai flares fit fine on a 2-door Sidekick.
When I get a big pile of money saved up, I'll make the BIG switch:
- 4.2:1 or 4.4:1 transfer case gear set.
- 5.83:1 R & P's
- ARB Air Lockers, front & back
- Calmini Anvil - Steel front axle housing
- Grand Vitara XL-7/Manual Transmission (Steel) front diff carrier.
- 1996 or later (26 spline) front axles (2 driver's side short axles).
But holy crap - thats gonna cost as much as the whole Kick did!
THEN, it gets interesting:
Hugh Reynolds (Renolds Machine) complete rebuild of the engine, up to about 140 HP - about $2,200 if I provide the engine...
Shrock 10-09-2002, 08:03 AM You are much more likely to loose a limb wood working than metal working IMHO. I do both. Just look at those razor sharp carbide teeth on a miter saw or table saw vs. an abrasive chop saw, grinder, or slow moving metal band saw. It is mighty easy to create nasty little burns though. :D

Ha! While that would SEEM to be true, it is not true FOR ME. I haven't caused any major damage woodworking, but I have many scars from metal. Get me near metal, and I just get clumsy, I guess - it's a mystery to me.
Edit: Here's some of my woodworking:

Im a Wannabe consultant for a few Companies, seems work is very spread out with so many coming into the field. I dont mind getting my hands dirty, you dont need to worry about it when working on computers unless you got some Exec looking over your shoulder, wondering where all the burns and cuts come from on the back of your hands, and top of the head :-) Thx Arc welder!
but if you got the cash Calminis stuff looks nice :-)
