I had a little issue with the block drain plug on the passenger side of the 454 in the Jeep. so i am curious to know if there are any other spots you could install the knock sensor and still have it perform as it should? i could probably use the drivers side, but it would take some work to get the plug accessable and i would have to use a pipe nipple and union to get the sensor threaded on. any other places that will work?

thanks
Ryan

only thing i can think of right off the bat is maybe convert a frost plug to a knock sensor mount. I have to solve this issue aswell and think thats what im gonna try.

You could try the cylinder head... Contact www.tbichips.com and see if he'll mask the Knock circuit and just do away with it. Might cost you a few bucks, but it's better than getting dirty. It really should be at the bottom of the block casting.

I didn't have that particuar problem but, my knock sensor is a newer delphi (bolt through style) and I bolted it to the block next to the starter. I didn't have a stock one and got this one off ebay for 10 bucks or something. You will need to run separate ground for sensor but, it works great. I think it is a better sensor.

Out of curiousity, just wondered what year motor and injection you were using?

i figured it should be somwhere at the bottom. i had also thought of deleting the whole thing, but i think i would rather have it.

i hadnt heard of the bolt on style. might have to check that out. you know the application or part number? i assume it outputs the same signal?

injection is a hodge podge. TBI from a 94 harness and ECM from a 90 with TH400 engine is an 86 K30 OEM.

I don't know that the knock sensors do much good/bad anyways. Mine was broken in half and unplugged for about 2 yrs. (I was lazy and stupid) and when I finally replaced it after I found out it supposedly has an effect on timing nothing changed. Fuel mileage still sucks (mostly because of my heavy foot) and it has no more seat of the pants power.

So I wouldn't be afraid to just not run one. IIRC it just reverts back to a differnent (less aggressive) timing table.
