What tranmission would an 89 chevy 3/4 ton automatic have?

Thinking about buying an 89 chevy, and I was wondering how weak the transmission is. The truck has 217k on it.

Also what is the strongest automatic transmissiont hat would fit in her?

Most likely, it has a TH400. If it is a 3 speed, it is a TH400 for sure. If it is a 4 speed O/D trans, it is a 700R4. TH400 is the strongest automatic you can easily adapt to a Chevy truck.
