: Saginaw PS reservoir
bronco78 09-27-2002, 07:26 AM Two questions.
1: what if any vehicle using a sag pump (Not the real old style) used a remote reservoir?
2: Who makes a remote reservoir can for the sag pump?
And yes I tried a search.
Thanks
Scout Dude 09-27-2002, 07:29 AM I use a pump and remote resevoir from an 85 Chevy van. the pump part has a std resevoir but the top doesn't have a cap, it has a tube to extend it to another resevoir.
bronco78 09-27-2002, 07:36 AM Thanks, ok there is one idea.. Though I was hoping for a smaller can on the pump for more clearence, and the remote for fluid. But a van app would be better than nothing.
rkcrawl 09-27-2002, 07:39 AM I don't have the details, I'm searching, but I believe the roundy-round (oval track racers) guys use stock type saginaw pump with remote reservoirs. If I find the details I'll post them up.
P|n-BaLL 09-27-2002, 07:40 AM dude......
My Chev van Aplication: 1992 G-30/454 uses basically what the gent above described...a remote resivour and a small lil compact pump design. If ya need I can prolly manage to even procure some pictures of one mounted on a BB 78 bronco ;-P But yr good with fab and tis an easy bracket to build. But be warned........the pump is a bit pricey new.

pcorssmit 09-27-2002, 07:40 AM Sounds like you want a Hydroboost pump. Mine (stock on '83 diesel Blazer) has a round reservoiur on the pump, and ~1" hose that goes up to an external reservoiur. Most hydroboost pumps I've seen are similar; they also have 2 return lines (easy to plug on if not needed, though).
FWIW, my reserviour was not big enough when I added hydro assist (2 x 8 ram); I cut the cap off, and welded in about 4-5" in the middle, works great now.

bronco78 09-27-2002, 07:44 AM Thanks Norm.. I've been running a standard sag pump for some months now.. and it works just fine.. A little close on the res to PS box clearence though if the tension is tight on the belt. I can twist up the bronco and just toutch the can to the box.... Probale more potential for a harder hit if thrashed hard.. Not that I drive that way.............
SO, was thinking, I have a chance to get a AGR pump for peanuts, and if I could find a remote can...well you get the idea.

Ok, another good lead.. as for size of reservior,,,not a issue, I have a additional cooler and reservior/filter that is plumbed into the system.

tj pumps wont work..... the resevor is plastic and attached to the pump...... when you remove the resevoir.... there is no way to attach a remote line.........
get a howe pump and remote res with baffles..... very sweet and the route im taking
tdavis 09-27-2002, 10:04 AM I didn't think about the ball vs. rack thing.
So another choice:

Standard Saganaw 'TC' pump. Used on lots of vehicles. You can also get a TC pump from the race car supplies. One benifit is they use standard AN fittings on the feed and the high pressure outlet. Easy to find fittings yourself, instead of messing with a factory hacked lines.
You can get a new race car moded (higher flow) TC pump for $125 (no core, no pulley).
(not the cheapest place, but I had the link handy)

BadDog 09-27-2002, 01:19 PM Unfortunately, not all hydro-boost applications have the remote. My M1008 with 6.2 and HB had a large tank reservoir plumbed for the 2 returns. :( I've been trying to switch mine but every time I find one, they don't want to part out (rebuilder/junk yard) or they think it's got a diamond hidden inside (I'm not paying $100 for a used, unknown condition "u-pull" pump/res).
Anyway, I've seen them on vans from 3/4 ton up to 1.5 ton and I've seen them on several 6.2/6.5 diesels.
pcorssmit 09-27-2002, 01:48 PM My buddies '77 C30 has a reservoir like mine on a 454.

WOLF359 09-27-2002, 02:06 PM Go get the rubber top from a Chevy van at the junkyard for the Sag pump, and , I got my Res from a Nissan Micra. Lengh of tube between the two. Price under 5 bucks.
Tim.
