Finally getting around to installing a winch on the front of the SAMSTER. I got a XRC8 Comp winch w/syn rope from www.wildhorses4x4.com last week. I was hoping it would fit in without re-doing much of my tube framing, but it was a little too tight.
So today we finally just decided to cut the stinger and everything off the front of the frame, then mount the winch and fairlead, then build back around it the best I can.
Today I got everything cut out, got the fairlead mt built and the winch plate fitted, and most of the cuts ground clean. Tomorrow I will bolt and weld the winch on. I picked up a couple of the bolt-on tow hooks from Auto Zone that I will mount also.
My main goal for tomorrow is to get the winch mounted and wired. Maybe I'll tie some of the tubes and stinger back in if I have time. But I can wheel it without the stinger!:flipoff2:

I'll post progress pics tomorrow-

Got the winch installed today--- came out better than I thought it would!

Surprisingly, I was able to re-use some of the Stinger parts that I cut off. I also mounted a couple of tow hooks-

Here are the finished pics-:grinpimp:

Looks like a nice install.

They must be a little wider than a T-Max... put mine between the frame rails

Took the Samster out to Cougar Buttes today--- I like how the winch set-up looks, and I dont notice the added weight up there. Didnt need to use the winch today, but I did wedge myself in between some granite really hard and now my front axle is clicking:shaking:

So I called Bobby Long and got some 30 spline Longfield axles and birfs on the way!!!:grinpimp:

Hopefully they will get here by Wed. for TG at the Hammers!:smokin:
