Can you post up some pics and what all you used for your park tank? I know it's PVC with a heating element, just wondering if you could give me anymore info then that :laughing::laughing:

I've got 4 guns I'm hoping to park while I'm home for Thanksgiving break.

I've used it

it's probably 6" diameter and 3' tall or so.

think something like this:

where the handle allows relatively cooler fluid to move down towards the element which, IIRC, is just below the lower inlet of the outer tube

Too bad you weren't closer I have a few stainless tanks for parkerising. Good luck on your project.

How do you prep the part before parkerizing?

I sandblasted, washed then rinsed with acetone

Pete or anyone else who has parkerized? Did you age the solution with iron powder like Brownells claims you should? Or should I just park a bunch of scrap metal first, then start doing guns etc?

And I should say.... Either way I haven't got iron powder, nor do I have time to order it from a chemistry supply company and no stores carry it locally. I bought an 1/8 steel rod and cut it up into as small of pieces as i could with a grinder, it's basically the size of rabbit food now. I plan on attempting to age with that, then I'm going to park some scrap metal and see how it turns out/continue the aging process LOL.

So does anyone have any idea what the result of a kitchen thermometer falling into the solution will cause in the long run? Cause I managed to knock the one I had hanging on the side of the tank into the tank... And as it happens, kitchen thermometers are not magnetic....

hook it with a coat hanger

That fixes a lot of problems I hear.

a metal thermometer?I thought it was metal at least  I had a magnet for picking up bingo markers that was my moms that I stole a long time ago to look for an AR detent that I'd shot across the room(easier to sweep the carpet with a magnet, then to actually spot the detent) I tied the magnet on a string and went fishing, but I didn't get the thermometer, I did get the piece of wire the thermometer was hanging off the side of the pipe from.

hook it with a coat hanger

I tried hook it with some wire, but my tank is 42" deep. I can't actually see the bottom, even with flashlight. So I'm just fishing around blindly. That's why I'm wondering if the thermometer will hurt anything if it lives in the tank for a while

Kitchen thermos are stainless.
I doubt it will cause any issues.
I did use the powdered steel.
Why not just pour the solution into a 5-gal bucket and get the thermo out?

I read somewhere that steel wool will work instead of powder, so I did that last night for a while.

For the themometer, I think I'm going to run by the parts store and get a good pickup magnet, I used to have one but it magically dissappeared from my toolbox...

The park solution I bought from midway says to bring the solution up to temperature then submerge one coarse steel wool pad in it for 30 minutes before parkerizing anything.
