: viable trade?
twoslo4five0 11-21-2009, 08:39 PM my 1999 chevy crew cab 2500 5.7,170k,headers,new top end shortbed
for
I have a 1994 Dodge Ram 3500 4x4 dually pickup truck for sale. It has Cummins diesel and automatic transmission. Runs and drives great. Has new radiator, steering box, and inspection sticker. Only issues is paint is faded from hood and roof. It is black with red interior. Odometer shows 133,000 miles. I will try to get some pics tomorrow.
pros and cons of the 1994 model?
#rawkon 11-21-2009, 08:48 PM Cummins is the shit, But Dodge sucks ass. They are huge hunks of crap. I just sold my 99 quad cab 2500 4x4 Worst truck I have ever owned, Your call

i think thaTS a bit exagerated. i like my 96... only real issue i have with it is the doorpins dont let the driver door open and shut quite right.
i had to do some things to is when i got it,but nothing that any 13 year old truck may need...u joiunts, wheel cylenders, steering shaft, front brakes, tie rod. i have revcently put in a brand new radiator to fix my overheating while towing issue, and now it needs a heater core. again, shit that could happen to aything old.
the cummins wears out front end parts,so check that out. drive it and make sure the tranny is fine-thats the other thing to worry about.
other than that, the 160 hp p-pump is not the best one to use if you want to build a 1000 hp pulling truck(but you can still do it). you can easily hop it up for some useable extra grunt when towing.
i dont know what those trucks go for in your area,or what kind of $$ youd be losing to trade off your chevy, but if its about equal id do it. i like my 96 and have had minimal issues with it.
#rawkon 11-22-2009, 05:50 AM Like I said Cummins is awesome, Just cant stand the crappy box it comes in.:flipoff2:

thats very informative... what specifically dont you like or have had issue with?
just to say "its a crappy box" doesnt help him at all with his decision :shaking:
#rawkon 11-22-2009, 08:19 AM Interior was very cheap, Rattles and falls apart. Speedo sensor in the rear axle, Good thinking for a 4wd? Dash that cracks and falls thru ( nothing you can do about it, Even the new ones do it). Leaky cabs with the quad door ( Check out the dodge forums, Seems everyone has that problem) And the well know Dodge auto transmissions. need to be replaced every 60-80K miles. If you get a gas motor, You get absolutley terrible gas mileage adn dont get the added power to accompany it, plus your plagued with plenum leaks and plugged catalytic convertes. But we are not talking about a gas motor here. We are talking about the mighty Cummins.
Look every vehicle has its problems, But I rated my 99 Quad cab 4x4 right up there with an Oldsmobile Alreo. I feel that car single handedly killed Oldsmobile. Like I said, Cummins is the best diesel out there in my humble opinion. I just didnt like the truck it came in.

shitty front end design, cheap rattly interiors, improperly painted panels, so the truck looks like its got skin cancer..
twoslo4five0 11-22-2009, 11:11 AM here are some pics of my truck and the said truck.his has 133k and mine has 170

#rawkon 11-22-2009, 11:38 AM I think youll miss the crew cab. Once I got an extended cab i will not go back to standard cab. Alot fo this would depend on how much room you need, how much weight your hauling and wether you like dodge/chevy more.
personally i couldnt do it just becasue of the standard cab.

x2..
Dave07 11-22-2009, 01:40 PM also you chevy was prob kept up a little better. at least it looks it.
twoslo4five0 11-22-2009, 01:55 PM im thinking that when im ready id be able to get out of the cummins easier than the chevy though and mabye for more money.im pulling somewere around 13k.the cc has a 5.7
1stgenxxx 11-22-2009, 03:23 PM I have an 01 CTD the engine is awsome! I can speed going uphill towing my 4k toyota. It was an impulse buy and I'm kicking myself now...Atleast the one you're looking at is 4wd. The std cab doesn't bother me that much because it's decetly roomy for a regular cab truck. My auto trans shifts like crap. Certain days it feels awsome and then others it has be worried. My truck has 150k on it and the dash is cracked and the plastic trim around the guages is also busted. The guage cluster is also has all sorts of dust inside it. My drivers seat it also all to hell already.
Maybe one day when I hit the lottery....I will swap the engine into a 03ish chevy cc and actually have something comefortable to drive

i agree... id sell chevy and buy at least an extended cab truck. or run your truck for awhile and when youre tired of spark plug ignition swap a cummins into it :grinpimp:
twoslo4five0 11-22-2009, 06:04 PM i know i will mis the cc.there is no doubt about that but even the newer dodges dont have the room like mine now so id still miss it.but i figure i can get what if not more out of this later when im ready finacally ready to get something newer/larger.
twoslo4five0 11-23-2009, 03:08 PM so never got my question anwsered is it a good trade or no?
BillyBronco 11-23-2009, 03:19 PM I wouldn't trade. They may be worth the same in value but I would never own a single cab. I think you wouldn't like the difference in the creature comforts in the Dodge vs. Chevy. You can do as you please but I wouldn't trade for it.
twoslo4five0 11-23-2009, 03:45 PM well as far as the creatur comferts im used to it.my buddy has had 3 and we primarly use his lately since the chevy hasnt been up for it.this is his newest but he had a 97 e cab and i was in the back every weekend.im used to the dodge just dont know if its worth it or not.

72blazer 11-23-2009, 03:45 PM Possible to keep the Chebby and start planning a Cummins swap?
twoslo4five0 11-23-2009, 03:53 PM dont want to go through the hassle honestly.the 4l80 wont last with a cummins and im not saving up for a allison.
if i sell the truck then after the frst of the year i will prolly get a dmax dually.but im looking at the dodge now at a zero doallar out of pocket expense
nightcrawlers 11-24-2009, 04:03 AM i think its worth it. if you can tolerate the single cab,i think that when its time to sell the dodge will bring the same as selling your chevy.
what does your buddy with the 97 think?
i know they may not have all the creature comfortsof a newer truck adn the paint falls off,but the 94-97 dont have the second door(and the aforementioned seal issue) and you cant beat a 12v for stupid simple reliability.
my 2 cents, anyway.id rather drive a std cab dually cummins than a gas enigine SRW CC chevy, even as much as i like a crewcab,

Here's my take.....yes, the dually will pull your toyhauler better, but you've been wanting to switch to a 3 seat buggy.......going to be awful crowded in that regular cab for road trips. You said that you're not going to be able to wheel much in 2010, so why do you need something that is going pull better? Is the toyhauler done? Have you attempted pulling it yet with the CC? What's the priority?
twoslo4five0 11-24-2009, 04:27 PM someone is brining cash friday.looks like im waiting saving up and getting a dmax after the first of the year

its kinda one of thoose things that everytime i turn the key soemthing breaks.im over it.the battery was dead the other day and thats when i thru in the towel on it.i drve an hour to get it and didnt have jumper cables so that was the last straw
Hot dog 11-25-2009, 09:20 AM so never got my question anwsered is it a good trade or no?
I need more info on his truck. With my dumb ass trades i have learned this owuld not be a good trade. His truck has ben a work truck. Yours has been a family truck. Who knows how that dodge truck has been drove, when the oil was changed, tranny fluid changed. It may run good now but what about two weeks down the road. If you truck is running fine I would keep your chev and look for a now work truck trade.
I have had a few 94 dodge work trucks. I beat the shit out of them. We sold them for dirt ass cheep due to the only good part left was the engine. To do front end work will be in almost $2000.00.
Dont do it.
