So i was recently given my dads old isuzu trooper and was wondering if it would be a good build up truck? i was thinking maybe an SAS and swapping out the rear axle but i wasnt sure if it would be worth it as a trail truck in the long run. are these pretty sturdy trucks in any way? its a fully loaded model with auto, 4x4, 3.2L, leather, etc.

would be a good build up truck?

Free truck = good build candidate! Little Isuzu aftermarket support is the biggest problem but if you are going to swap axles, that takes care of most of that.

are these pretty sturdy trucks in any way?

Fully boxed frame, well built body = sturdy truck.

its a fully loaded model with auto, 4x4, 3.2L, leather, etc.

They are a pretty comfortable ride, although I'm not that fond of the auto trans.

That rear axle is the last thing you need to worry about, other than for matching gear ratios with the front SAS axle. It is plenty stout, unless you go reaaaally big on tires.

It should be fine for 37". And Aussie and ARB lockers are available. Gears are limited...in addition to the stock 4.56 you can get 4.77 and 5.38. (BTW the Aussie locker and 5.38 gears for the Isuzu 12-bolt are only available at Independent4x.)
