I've been thinking about what to do with my GSG5. I hate the fake can, and I would either like to A) SBR it or B) make it into a functional SD rifle. Since I know what to do to SBR it, I want to get your thoughts on making it an SD.
Here's the rifle:

My thought is that I could use an E &L shroud, port the barrel, and construct a suppressor (or, more accurately, have one made) that fits over the barrel and inside the E & L shroud. The suppressor would be on a Form 1, same as doing an SBR, and would cost a little more than chopping a barrel.
What do you think?

If you could work out the port locations so that it bleeds enough velocity off of standard ammo the make it subsonic, that would we wicked. No need for special ammo. :grinpimp:
And a supressed GSG would be vastly superior to an SBR'd one.

That's what I was thinking. The ports could be located to line up with the baffles so that the barrel itself is part of the suppressor, just like the MP5SD. I'd rather use standard velocity ammo to achieve a more authentic MP5SD replica. With the E&L shroud I could have the look to go with it.

You could probably drill the front holes (muzzle end) to get the baffling/noise reduction part correct. Then chrono it to see where you're at with whatever ammo you want to feed it... and start adding holes closer and closer to the breech, until it's just a bit below the speed of sound.
That way you don't kill way too much of the velocity, and end up with a 300FPS firearm. Or something.

The problem will be to keep it cycling the bolt. Your going to have to polish the snot out of it to keep it going

Why would that be a problem with standard or high velocity ammo? I could see it being a problem with the subsonic stuff.

IF the pistol version works with a shorter bll(and there are NO internal differences)...why wouldn't his rifle version work with the regular bbl with a bunch of holes drilled in it?

my bad. Reading comp owned me.
I did an F1 on a 10/22 with an 8" tube. Took 18 holes 0.075 to get it better than pellet gun quiet. It wouldn't cycle subs until I polished everything to a mirror finish.
I'll go back to my corner now.:flipoff2:

I've read a lot about gsg's being loud even with the best .22lr suppressors around, so I certainly wouldn't pay $200 to just build a weakassed ported barrel "suppressor" . Cut the bbl down, build a real suppressor that makes the length end up 16", then silver solder it on. Under the sd shroud if you want.
Also, I'll sell you my never shot e&l shroud for $50 shipped.
