: School me on Getrag 203/205 doubler options...
blackee 11-24-2009, 08:53 AM I'm wanting to put a 203/205 doubler behind the Getrag 5speed in my 92 Dodge with the Cummins diesel. This seems to be common on the NV4500 in GM's but I have not heard of it (or have just not paid enough attention) behind the Getrag or Dodge NV4500.
My 205 is making a similar noise to a worn coupler on a 10spl. SM465/NP205 combo so I'm going to pull it and see whats going on and upgrade to a twin stick at the same time.
From what I have gathered my 205 has a 29spl. male input, but does it uses a coupler? or does my Getrag have a 29spl. female output? If it does use a coupler I may have an easier time adapting a 203... Am I missing something or is there an easier alternative? I'm worried about getting a 203 to the Getrag as I could use a different 205 if need be.
Thanks for any help or insight.
Seanzy 11-24-2009, 01:35 PM The Getrag should have a coupler. I'm thinking all of the Dodge 203's were 23 spline. One of my buddies did swap a Getrag into his 1st gen Cummins. He couldn't find a 29 spline 205 anywhere. So he had the machine shop cut both a 23 and 29 spline coupler in half, sleeved them, and TIG welded them back together. So far, it is holding up with no issues. I don't know if the Dodge 203's used a coupler though.
blackee 11-27-2009, 08:41 PM Thanks for the reply. I think I'm going to bail and just go with twin stick and possibly 3:1's for now.
dogbender 11-28-2009, 09:01 AM Here's is what I did. I got a Advanced Adapters kit # 50-0220. It adapts a NV4500 to a Ford t-case. I know you said Getrag. This kit fits both. It has a 29 spline to 31 spline collar and a 6 hole round trans to t-case adapter. Now get a ford 203 range case and get a doubler adapter to fit your 205. I personally went with the Chevy 32(short) 205. I sold the 29 spline 205 for what I paid for the doubler kit.
therabbittree 01-28-2011, 07:20 AM mummn that may be a option for me..
Thanks,

therabbittree 01-29-2011, 05:59 PM How hard is it to swap out the 29 spline np205 input I have ?.. I think my case was rebuilt and it feels / looks good. I know the 29 spline np205s have the large bearing input case bearing. What large bearing np205 input should ichange it too? and What type of doubler adapter should I attempt to find.
Thanks for the help.!!

wheelieking71 01-29-2011, 06:17 PM if you do the advance adapters kit like dogbender did, you will need to swap a chevy 32spline input into your 205 (easy) and get a ford 203 to dodge 205 doubler. (the reason i say dodge doubler is because the dodge case uses the figure-8 pattern on the front of it, not the later round chevy pattern) and then sell me your 29spline 205 input shaft, coupler, and coupler housing!!
therabbittree 01-29-2011, 06:35 PM Is the chevy 32 spline np205 for the big bearing 29 spline case? I'd be up for selling my stuff to you. Right now I have my extra getrag 5 spd & np205 out and cleaning them up. I blew my daily driver plow / flatbed trucks getrag last week. I want to finish putting the good drive line together etc and was just going to adapt a jb twin stick kit I already had to my 205 ..then thought if I could get a 203 range box in there at the same time I'd kill two birds with one stone. I already have a np203 ..I have to go count the splines on its female input. hopefully is good to go otherwise I amy have to source and swap that out too... Want company's ford to dodge 203/205doubler do you recommend?
Thanks,
Deo
therabbittree 01-29-2011, 06:42 PM Oh Wheelieking with is all for my '92 W350 SRW Flatbed dump, plow truck, 3.07 gears, etc. I'm working on a york on board air setup, and central hydraulic system with a belt driven clutch pump. I was going to do trans direct mount pto pump but the clutch pump would be better to run the snowplow, dump, and a big 26k braden hydraulic winch I have. I want to mount under the bed behind the rear axle etc. Should be pretty nice wne finished.. wait its never finished ha.
Thanks

yes, the chevy input gear will fit in the dodge 29spline case you already have. and if i was in the market for a doubler (which i was about 6 months ago) i would buy the ORD set-up. its the shortest set-up out there, and the best engineered i think. nothing against NWF, but i do not like that design at all. 205s are not light, and thats alot of weight to be hanging on that whimpy little bolt-circle thier coupler thingy uses. i HAVE seen one break the ears off the coupler, and that was enough for me to rule it out. im not bashing. just stating facts. bye-the-way, your truck sounds badd-ass!

Bill I need that 29 spline input! Call me
