bakerhab2003 11-25-2009, 11:31 PM Marines Release New Alternative 6 for Twentynine Palms Proposed Base Expansion
For Press Release and Map go to: http://pfjv.org/
The Partnership For Johnson Valley will issue a statement on the latest revision "6" after it's review of the new map.
In a brief statement, Chairman Harry Baker said that he is disappointed to see that none of the area to the east of the base was included, and again, it is the recreation lands and those lands that border the communities that are targeted.
[Brief Description of new proposed Alternative 6]
Proposed 29Palms Training Land/Airspace Acquisition Project
Project Description Paper Number 5 – November 2009
Alternative 6 (West/South)
About 140,000 acres west/19,000 acres south
Maneuver would start from the east on the
current MCAGCC base and the south
study area, and the MEB battalions would
converge on an objective in the west study
area.
No dud-producing ordnance use in 40,000
acres in the south of the west
study area; this 40,000 acres would be open
for public use when MEB training not
required.

I have zero faith in the people running this country any more and the even the "military politicians" of today follow the same tact as every other damn politician.
What is our next step???

I don't know why but that link will not work for me. Got the same link in my email earlier and didn't work then either

Works for me. It's a .pdf file, do you have an Adobe reader on your computer?
Maybe right click and save and open with Adobe?
Eezee 12-01-2009, 12:13 AM It puts the Hartwell Hills(Hammers) in the restricted public access area. These guys didn't get the message.
desertPOS 12-01-2009, 12:27 AM I tried a different browser and it works for me now (was using Firefox). Attached, in case anyone else is having trouble. Don't know if I'm reading the map correctly or not, but looks like the majority of JV OHV would be closed to public, and a small piece is restricted access?? Looks like some, if not all of Hammers trails are still in restricted area - but again, I don't know if I'm seeing it correctly.
So what is the next step for us?

They got the message, they just don't give a fuck:rolleyes:

You are reading that correctly. I'm not sure what the next step is at this point. I suppose since this is a new option that it will be need to have public input just like the rest of the options.
They got the message, they just don't give a fuck:rolleyes:
I think you are also reading this correctly :mad3:
Kurtuleas 12-02-2009, 01:33 PM I suppose since this is a new option that it will be need to have public input just like the rest of the options.
Don't get me wrong here, I will ALWAYS particpate in the public process of these things when it comes to closures...
But I am REALLY getting miffed becuase of how Eric elquently put it:
they just don't give a fuck:rolleyes:
Look at Tellico where they said they would "listen" to the public comments :shaking: It's pretty evident the Forest Sup in that case made the decision way ahead of time....
Since we can"t seem to generate enough funds to our Orgs to sue everyone, I think we need to start changing our tactics and play dirty.
I know everyone thinks I am a nutcase for pushing the "religous" and "Sacred lands" angle, but I really think we should persue it in some way.

X2 on the change of tactics Kurt. IMO this new version is just a way for the government to say: "look we gave you 44,000 acres for 350 days of the year, be happy." :mad3:
My read of the map is the Hammers are in the restricted area for limited use, but the rest of Johnson and Lucerne Valley will be closed. No more Cougar Buttes, Camp Rock Road, and some of the only smooth roads out there for desert and m/c racing will all be shut down. :mad3:
Edit: Thanks Helen & Harry and PFJV for staying on top of this. :)

I like it. Seriously. Here are some quick links pertaining to starting a religion:
http://www.apath.org/creating_religion.html
http://www.ehow.com/how_2067907_start-religion.html
http://www.pantheism.net/paul/index.htm
How's this for nutcase:
We would just need to base it around worshipping in the Temple of the Earth or communing with the Power of the Earth. Great God Deserticus or something? Just throwing out ideas... We could go ahead and pick some holy days - I would think KOH and the Jambo would be good holy days to start with. Maybe come up with some religious bylaws? Choose a way of communing with the dead - which are reincarnated as boulders in the desert or sections of trail? I bet this could build pretty quickly if we got it going in chitchat - who wouldn't want to be a part of a new religion??
Damn, this almost makes me want to head out there right now and have a good ol' peote-fueled spiritual experience:eek:
desertPOS 12-02-2009, 04:42 PM Maybe Billavista could do a Bible writeup for us - different chapters could be named after the trails out there, aka Full of Love, Full of Hate and assign meaning to areas like Valley of the Kings etc.:smokin::D
shoyrtt 12-02-2009, 04:47 PM It is known as the "Mecca" of rock crawling.:grinpimp:
desertPOS 12-02-2009, 04:50 PM I would be down for creating some kind of church/sect logo:grinpimp:
Kurtuleas 12-03-2009, 02:45 PM Here is the thread I posted up maybe a year ago on The Church of the Rock:
http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=726678
In a nutshell:
http://www.usdoj.gov/crt/housing/housing_rluipa2.php
§2000cc. Protection of land use as religious exercise
(1) Equal terms
No government shall impose or implement a land use regulation in a manner that treats a religious assembly or institution on less than equal terms with a nonreligious assembly or institution.
(2) Nondiscrimination
No government shall impose or implement a land use regulation that discriminates against any assembly or institution on the basis of religion or religious denomination.
(3) Exclusions and limits
No government shall impose or implement a land use regulation that—
(A) totally excludes religious assemblies from a jurisdiction; or
(B) unreasonably limits religious assemblies, institutions, or structures within a jurisdiction.
Seriously, wheeling and camping for me is WAY more than a hobby. Maybe even more than a lifestyle...it's damned near, IF NOT, a religion.
If we proclaim JV as "sacred" ground to our culture, who knows?
Kurtuleas 12-03-2009, 02:47 PM It is known as the "Mecca" of rock crawling.:grinpimp:
On a side note...
How long has JV been called that by folks?
I came up with that for the Virt rally, so I was kinda wondering if (well, hoping) it was me that coined the phrase. :grinpimp::laughing:
lttlbddy 12-04-2009, 08:55 AM No more Cougar Buttes, Camp Rock Road
I finally had a chance to study this map a little more. In this Alt 6 map, the North/West corner has actually been pulled South/East more than it was in Alt 1/4/5.
I have loosly marked the Alt 1, 4 & 5 bounders with the solid blue line. The dashed blue line is Camp Rock Road.
If I have this wrong, please feel free to correct me :homer:

You are correct, The map alternative gives the appearance the base will
expand to Camp Rock, Not the case, it stops at the power corridor
that cuts though JV diagonally ...as does Camp Rock.
We still would have Anderson and Cougars.
So there still would a bit of open area left, but not left much to run competitive
events on at the west end.
Not quite what we had hoped for :shaking:

What you see here is the latest. My feelings are that Alt 6 is the Marines preferred Alt at this point. Officially, there is no "final decision" yet.
maxyedor 12-13-2009, 01:15 PM Ok good (I guess), from what I heard 6 was the final official decision.
