Ok I am posting this for a friend. He has a 1990 Chevy silverado with 350. Has the 700r4 trans. It was recently rebuilt about 6 months ago, and ever since it has been shifting bad. 1st gear shifts at 35mph or around 20mph if you let off the gas and then the rest of the gears are right after each other, don't even know it shifts really.

Would this be because of the TV cable or something else?

The most common cause is an incorrectly adjusted TV cable. I'd start there first for sure.

Yep that is what we are working on....Transmission is still under warranty but he doesn't trust the shop. Takes forever to get it back and it still isn't right even when he does get it back.

I rode in the truck last night and if you don't let off the throttle it won't shift into 2nd until 35mph. Then the rest of the gears shift right after that.

if I remember correctly, that type of problem can mess up the tranny if you don't fix it. I had a TV cable not properly set and someone told me that. Also, is it hard to shift manually? Mine had the detent wheel arm loose in the trans pan, next to the filter. With that left alone.....lets just say I have a th400 now.

Yep I talked to him today and he said that is why the transmission went out the first time. He bought the truck used. Now it still isn't right and the transmission shop can't seem to fix it either. I referred him to the same person that works on all of our transmissions and he is gonna take it to him when he gets a chance, or hope the transmission goes out again since it is under warranty.

with a 700r4 how the hell is he getting to 35mph in first?

first lower than other trans and he would be wound tight to do it, like 6000rpm.
