Ok so I got a big bearing 9 inch for next to free for my 69 so I figured I would build a 60 with the small bearing I had left over.

so I have a 9 housing and third I was going to use chevy outers, what do I want from the 60 the whole tube or just the outers.

I just came across this page http://home.off-road.com/~ne4wi/docs/tech_hybrid.html so if you read into it like I do I need a 35spl 9 inch diff and 35spl shafts for a 60 will fit in there, just seems like too good to be true.

if that were the case I would just use everything but the center section from the 60 going through and freshening up what I wanted to like these shafts.

Don't forget you will need to come up with an inner axle seal, look at what the makers of the aftermarket housings use for ideas. Make sure the spline angle of the diff you use is the same as your axles, IIRC there are some aftermarket spools out there that use a different spline angle. You will need an aftermarket third to run almost any 35 spline diff in a 9", there are 35 spline spools that will fit a stock third but a detroit or air locker will need an aftermarket third.

Personally I would think that by the time you truss and reinforce a stock housing and deal with inner seals you might be just as well off with one of the new ruffstuff or ballistic housings. Little more $$$ upfront but a stronger housing with bigger tubes and more clearance might be worth it.

yeah I thought about that spider trax has a pretty nice housing that is expensive but not that bad but I may go with the stock one since I would have to truss it for the hydro steering I want. Also I got a nodular 9 third in my 78 when I bought that so it will be going up front most likely with an arb after I sell my soul.

I built one several years ago you can check out the built in my sig. Not as simple as its made to sound but can be done with some basic fab skills.
