If the other end wont allow it to turn, it should be ok

At least try to get a regular right hand nut for the one side. One is all you need.

I'm not running jam nuts because my hydraulic cylinder keeps it from turning. When you say 1-ton, do you mean the 1-18, or 7/8-18 rod ends? If you have the 1" ones, no one makes jam nuts for them except for one guy that I know of. I can hook you up with his name and number if you want.

Have you check www.mcmasters. com for the 1" jam nuts?? I know they make jam nuts for 1.125" so I would think they would make them for 1". Just a thought.

It isn't the 1" rod end that is the problem. The problem is that the 1" rod end has a weird thread pitch. 18 threads/inch. The link in your post didn't work for me, neither did adding .com to the end. But I found someone who will make them at a reasonable price, so it's no biggie. Plus, I bought five sets just to last me and I didn't end up needing them anyway. :)

7/8-18 LH Thread...

I went on the run anyway, had a blast, broke a birf (surprise)

I have jam nuts on every rod end except for one, it was fine but I still would like to use a jam nut on it for peace of mine

Ugly tech, certainly, but next time you rattle loose a heim jont (it'll happen), take the old heim to ye old chop saw and make yourself a few jam nuts. Grab the grinder and finish the edges if you want them to be purty. :p

This is NOT a good way to make graded fasteners --except for grade 12 :flipoff2: -- but it works fine for lower-stress fasteners...
