well after having the motor built for well over a year, i fired it up last week in the 65 stepside. had one rocker arm i could move 1/8 to 1/4". they are positive stop so no adj. i figured i'd idle it for a bit and hope it primed. well i run it for a while then took it out for a few rips up and down the road:D :D really happy with the power. i plan to pull the lifter here in a bit.
would you soak it oil again and hope it holds or should i pull one from the 289 i just yanked and drop it in?
even as it is it will break traction at about 45 in 2nd when i get on it hard. i break em in like i drive em. i set the timing as quick as i can and then it's out for a few hot laps.
thanks,
shon

Sounds like a piece of crud got in the lifter during the rebuild. You can try pulling the lifter, placing it in a container of oil and working the plunger in an attempt to force out the junk. I've had a 50/50 success rate doing that (1 worked, 1 did not) For me, I'd just drop in a new set of lifters,,,, unless you got some spendy one's in there now. And just incase you did not know. Do not uses a used lifter on a used cam. (ok to reinstall the same lifter in the same position)

the 289 that came out had'nt even been broke in. looked like a nut was left off the rod bolt. the bolt was in the bottom of the pan unmolested. but, yeah i know not to throw the lifters out of place or on another cam. just tossing around the idea since the "old" lifters only had around 30 miles on em. i'll give kragen a call, no sense in half assing it now.

DUHHHHHH!! one of the studs was up about 1/8th inch. can't believe i did'nt notice. used a shim from one of my old roller kits. she runs like raped ape. and no tappy tappy. the shim should work till i get my other set of heads fully ported.
