Im taking the saw to the hardtop of my zuk, any of you chop off a hard top on a sami before, I tried the search but what I found couldn't really help.

Im looking for Ideas on what to cap the sides of the body with once the top is gone. I thought of just making aluminum caps for the sides and top of the windshield and having no tailgate. yes/no...

I have a bookmark to this guy's site (http://www.rockcrawler.com/readersrides/showcase/september98/), but it's broke so I don't know what happened to him. I know for sure he rolled the zook pictured and chopped the top off. I'll keep looking.

what's to fawkin know?? Grab a sawzall and just strt cuttin'.
:flipoff2:

I actuall prefer to use a jig saw where you can. My buddy and I had his chopped and cleaned up in a couple of hours. We welded the tailgate shut and I think he's going to use 1/2" round stock around the cut edges. I will try and get pics later. Are you trying to take off the whole top or just make it a targa??

Thanks for the help. Mud-lite is that a soft-top windshield? That seems like a cleaner way to go then to try and cap it.

On the tub, I really like this tub, its clean not one hint of any rust (yet), and the tub is really straight. The original owner redid the entire interior. I know were talking tubs but I think for me it would be better to just cut it.

On how much of a cut, I want to chop the whole thing, right below the back windows at that first line. I love how mud-lite's looks. (no worries Im not going to copy you, mines brite yellow/Black) If someone would be willing to post a pic for me I'll show you where I mean and what the Zuk looks like before.

Thanks again for the help! Cant wait to get cutting!:D

Hey, this hardtop is bent or beat up. That's why you're chopping it, right? If it ain't beat to hell, DON'T CUT IT!! Swap bodies if you want a convertable. Or just buy a body and keep the hardtop body for a future project. Or sell the hardtop body to someone who wants a hardtop. Mudlite cut his cuz he rolled and repair was pretty much not an option.

My thoughts exaclty. I know samuraiguy "bill" was told to suck a dick for askign a question and mentioning lowering a samurai. I knwo him and thougt it was funny he got slammed but lowering a 150 dollar samurai simply does not compare to chopping up a perfectly good hardtop. Theres so many dented and partialy rusted samurais to be had cheap and they arent in production anymore.. It makes no sense to ruin a nice one. A lowered sami can be fixed, gonan be hard to weld that top back on

thats my opinion too, i love my hardtop, and i don't think i would buy a convertable one, its just not my likings.......:D..... but when/if(if, yeah right) i roll mine, and if it bends and worps to top too bad and the windows won't fir, or the doors won't close then i'll cut mine off, but not until its way beyond repair...... the one we cut was rolled 3 times, and when they rolled it then never painted the top, just smashed it back into place as close as they could get it, then after sitting in the guys yard for 8 years cause it wouldn't pass inspection it got more hole in the top from rust than you could imagine, i only wish i had a pic...... but next time i'm out the scrap yard i'll get a pic of the old roof........ it wasn't worth doing anything with but choping............
if i was near you i would offer a trade for my body(hard top) for yours, mine has a few nice dents in the upper section but is still good, but i would rather a mint cond. body:flipoff2:

Ya, its in almost perfect shape except one dent above the windshield. The main reason I wanted to keep this tub was that it has no rust in anyway. And no major dents on the lower half. The second reason I didn't know that there were wheelers that really wanted a hardtop. So many are running Convertables. Thanks again for the input, Ill hold off cutting till I figure out what to do. Ill put my axles in instead. -Jess

I liked my HT for a daily driver in the winter or for security. When I rolled it for the third time, it was in need of a chop as you can see from my site. I wouldn't cut a good HT. Buy a convertable if you want a convertable.

Options on finding convertibles are very limited here in Colorado. I searched for a decent priced sammi for over a year and finally had to settle on a tintop. Its in pretty good shape, only dented by the latch on the back door. I did rhinoline the interior...

Anyone wanna trade a convertible? Drive on out and we can do the swap!
