TJ Mark and I met up with some of the Lake Havasu brotherin and drove the SOS trail. A good, full day of wheeling with fun people. Here are some pics with my new Nikon D40.

Yeah, it continues on up from Turkey Claw. You can see the lake bed in a couple pics, interesting point of view. I was told it's not a secret hand shake type of trail, so anybody can know it's whereabouts. Due to the trail's steepness, I doubt anybody would be able to stack it into submission.

Both Rick and I made the trail without assistance. It weren't easy, though!

There are no trails in JV that are stacked to submission any longer! All this KOH pre-running has taken care of that issue!

good job, thats impressive to make it with no assistance. I did pretty good, but didn't get a clean sweep.
Air Ride 11-30-2009, 09:14 PM SOS is my new favorite trail. Had the winch hooked up on the big fall in the middle for safty and had to winch one other time near the top.
Oh yea who sharted on the trail?
Mustard Dog 11-30-2009, 09:20 PM Got any of my car on that trail Mike:confused:
Oh yea who sharted on the trail?

We tried to right it as fast as we could. He said the vent tube wraps around the motor, so I still don't know why it sharted all over

Only one without the winch hooked up.:flipoff2:

Wow that is a memorable picture, I am sure your winch sponsor loves it. I have a question though, how long before you start winching do you have to dawn the helmet? Also, is this the buggy that more than doubled the winning time at the last KOH?:flipoff2:
:laughing::laughing:
3rd.

Don't worry Rick, winning isn't everything.
Oh wait:flipoff2:

Oh wait:flipoff2:
I keep hearing that?? So now I am going to take that advice, and mount a brass pole to my roof, then I'm gonna cruise the whole race at MD's speed with a stripper swinging around on top. That should help with the "maximum exposure" for my sponsors that I keep hearing about, way more than winning, or even making the podium.
We should get lots of pictures, and film time, plus she should be able to hold on, cause we will be going soooo fawking slooooowww. But she may have to wear a helmet in case theres any extreme winching we have to do.:flipoff2:

Mustard Dog 12-04-2009, 09:11 AM The stripper is a great idea, that way when we're waiting behind a huge bottleneck we'd be able to entertain the crowd and make some money. That would guarantee our car makes it every magazine that covers the race, kinda like last year, only without the pole.

They are going to have to be bikini dancers. New BLM regulation prohibit nudity. Something about a stripper pole mounted in a pickup bed was mentioned. :flipoff2:

Your right, I should have doubled back and waited for all the flashes to stop, except in 30 years, I don't want to be inducted into the "Marketing Hall of Fame". ;)
Bikini'd strippers suck.
Your still my hero MD!:flipoff2:

I think i have a line on a see-through fire suit for the stripper. I know Dave and Jeff will call us on this issue in Tec.

J-Bone 12-13-2009, 04:43 PM Nice pics. I have a Nikon D40 and love it (from a former point and shoot camera guy)
Samy's in Pasadena has demos on sale for 299
WIKD 281 03-19-2010, 02:17 AM Wheeled SOS trail on Wednesday and it was a blast:D Got almost to the top and a friend of mine explained that we should turn around because he couldnt see an exit that would not put our lives at risk. Is there more than one exit? I know the trail is still fairly new but I was hoping that as more run it we might be able to find a less life risking exit.
B2Krawler 03-25-2010, 10:50 PM awsome pics
kinda a gnarly trail to have kids on though, car seats? helmets? I assume they got out in the hard parts?
Im just paranoid, i took a bad spill on that trail

Holmes, that aint a bad spill. But don't you worry, "the children", were wrapped in their protective bubbles during any climb that required more then an idle.
Rick.

Rick.
Im the one that insisted our group turn around last week, we were there to have fun, not to risk lives
I may not be their parents, but that doesnt mean I cant be concerned. kids in the front seat, no car seat, no helmet, and i know a 5 point does not fit a kid that size good.
I guess I rate my bad spills, on how much the ER bill is, that one cost me a CT scan 4 days later, and a bunch of tube, guess myself or my kids are not at your level.
:shaking:

Your right, your not their parents. I can look at something, and know if its safe or doable for me. Sorry if you lack that ability, at which point your right again, your not at my level. If you "flopped" on the gate keeper, you were wrestling outside your weight class.
Sorry you almost got hurt, but if you think that helmet saved you, just imagine what a good set of belts, properly adjusted and adorned, and a cage that clears your dome could do for you.
Glad your OK, really,
Rick.
B2Krawler 03-26-2010, 12:12 AM thanks belittling me,
i did make some stupid mistakes on the way down, which did include not having my strap adjusted.
dont get mad, in my profession, i have scraped a lot of dead people off the road and their kids, im glad to hear your judgement is always 100% on for you and your family. Its just something to think about, nobody plans on accidents.
if i can share my experiences, and that leads to someone being safer, im happy
sorry for being concerned

um, you do realize Rick has finished in the top ten or so in the last three KOHs'.
right???
B2Krawler 03-26-2010, 12:38 AM yes i do, he is an accomplished racer, and someone that is looked up to, im the 1st to admit im not in his class when it comes to this sport.
you could say people like him are even role models for some of us,
im not trying to get in a pissing match with him, just trying to provoke thought, when it comes to safety.
being an accomplished racer, doesnt mean you cant get hurt, there are plenty of dead accomplished racers out there.
but when i see a 40lb kid, w/o a car seat, or helmet i get concerned, nobody plans on getting hurt. I may piss off some of you, but some of you might actually might think back to this post when your placing your toddler in the front seat of your buggy.
i dont care who the fawk you are or how good you might be.
dont hate because im concerned for you and your kids
good luck to all of you, and be safe

Wierd, Thats the way I took your first statment. Now that someone I hardly know has called me out in public, 6 months after the fact, I have to explain why I am an unfit parent.:shaking:
My son rides in a PRP premie seat in the back with his own miniature 5 points system, centered in the vehicle.
Second, his mom, who hovers over him like a hawk, is there for any lapse in judgement I may have. Think "huge safety margin". Hence my joke about the bubble.
Third that pic of the two boys with my wife was one of the bigger climbs, obviously not in the vehicles.
As for the boy in the front seat, he was safe with his very compotent Father at the wheel IMHO, and I for one, do not judge him.
If you knew me better you would know that my "belittlement" is my ever so gentle way of showing you the flaws in your arguement. So maybe change your sigline to, "Wear a helmet, if you insist on not having your belts tight while coming down a large drop, when you know your head is too close to the cage.":p
Again glad your alright,
Rick.
B2Krawler 03-26-2010, 10:40 AM understood,
I think it is awsome that your family wheels with you, i was not trying to call anyones parenting skills in question, sorry it came across that way, and it sounds like you take the necessary percautions.. I was actually curious, not judgemental about what percautions are in place. thats why I asked in my 1st post, i never called you unfit, nor did i ever think that.
I think im just a little paranoid because of my recent roll and my profession. I have never hurt myself wheeling until last week. I did not mean to use your friends as an example, just giving people something to think about
I too have a wife, that steps in when my judgement is flawed, thank god, because my judgemnt is often flawed.
kudos to involving your kids in our great sport. I have a small bench seat in the back of my buggy, but would like to go to a kids seat for safety, now that my son is old enough to join me, shit happens
Im sure a lot of folks are reading our little web brawl, and might get them thinking about what they can do to improve their and their families safety, COOL
hope to see you and your fam on the trail. best of luck to you
Shawn
