I'm pondering a Dual axle for the rear of my 89 3/4 ton Suburban. I did a search and found little info about it. I can't see how the swap would be difficult.......anybody ever seen one............or know of any difficulties in the swap? I have a full shop with a lift etc. Would love to hear your thoughts on the matter. Thanks for your time.

THe current axles are 3/4 tons from an 83 truck w/4:10 gears.

I have seen a few over the years. My thoughts?

They took the 1 ton dually axle, fenders off a CC LB dually, and *maybe* the 1 1/4 ton springs out of a CUCV. Most kept the 3/4 ton springs, though. Seemed pretty straight forward, the hardest parts being wiring the clearance lights and deciding what method to mount the fenders.

Arrowcraft is one of the biggest names in dually conversions. Is your current 14-bolt axle a semi-float or full floater?? If it's a full floater you could use they're bolt on wheel adapters.....if it's a semi floater, i'd suggest finding a complete axle out of a 1-ton dually pickup. If you're getting an axle out of a dually, may as well get the spring packs as well.

For the front you can use arrowcrafts bolt on adapters to use the dually rims or swap the outers off a dually pickup.

For the fenders, Arrowcraft has custom made fenders for your bodystyle suburban that work perfectly and are custom fit for the gas door. you need the set AF-275

a friend of mine had an 85 that had allegedly come that way,we presumed it to be some sort of dealer conversion.it was 2wd and had all the correct 1 ton suspension up front as well. we could not find any eveidence that someone had swapped it all in,so if that was the case they did a fine job.

for the rear, you can simply move the perches onthe axle as mentioned above if youre using a pickup width dually axle. ive also seen pics of C&C converted suburbans,in wich case you will need to use the 1 ton spring hangers to get the narrower perch spacing, and youll have to use the 1 ton upside down u bolts and plates since theres not room for the other style on top of the spring between the backing plate and frame.

i always thot my friends dually burb was neater than shit. if you do it be sure to post some pics :)

I don't know why but I would love that. It would handle so much better that a single wheel and kinda has that tough guy rancher look to it.

Now if only I could look tough.

I saw an ad in a Western Horseman mag a long time ago, and it was showing a suburban pulling a heavily modified gooseneck using a roof mounted hitch. Though it was really cool, but have never seen one since. Anybody ever seen anything like this? Just curious, it would cool in my book, but I would imagine weight would be a bit of an issue unless you did a conversion like this.
