Cummins BT4 - NV 4500 - Dana 300 all nicely tucked into a AFW frame

This guy is building it to be a daily driver. No real off-roading, and most certainly not a crawler, but some sweet ideas for you.

Other than the frame, it's pretty much all home-made.

We put the glass body on. It fits like it was a factory engine. This thing is going to be gorgeous.

As it's going to be a daily drive, he's putting in AC and an aluminum bed floor (light work truck). He's also going to seal off all holes in the frame, dump a quart of two in each frame rail, and weld it shut - after which it will be acid etched and painted.

He said he'd make one for most anyone else - for about $35,000.

Damn, you beat me to it, been hunting a 4bt for quite a while, got a nice CJ-5 frame with its name on it...

Nice work... Keep the pics coming...

I wish it were mine. It's a friend's.

He's has way more time/tools than I. At least two lathes, a mill, half dozen welders, and this BIG ASS crane - no idea on the rating, but the main post was probably 2 feet in diameter, it was a good 15-20 feet high and teh boom swung in an arc with a radius of 15 feet or so.

THAT'S MY ALL TIME GOAL FOR MY YJ......... lucky bastard

damn, now i have an erection

Do you know the weight of that thing. I've heard around 300. Where'd he get it from? Repair shop, or a dead doritos delivery truck or what?

engine weighs in a bit more than a wet 258 with accessories. Exact weight unknown though.

Source: Frito Lay truck.

Other interesting things to know:
1. Gear driven power steering pump - Standard saginaw pump though. :D
2. Notice the lack of a stock crank driven fan - ideal for a high volume electric puller
3. Parts are available anywhere - just not Walmart
4. He used tons of stock Jeep pieces. Engine isolaters are standard 4.0L Daystar mounts with custom brackets. Throttle cable is stock CJ 4 banger. Tranny mounts are Chevy conversion mount isolaters - any 4x4 shop worth a shit will have them in stock. The whole rig is built like that. Either he built it, or he can have it in 24 hours.
5. Every damn fastener is stainless. Glass body. Frame will be coated some how. He lives in NE Ohio and he doesn't want this thing to rust - ever.

All he's ever going to need to do is change the fluids for the next 15 years.

Aren't most of the parts universal with the 6?

my understanding is that everything but some of the rotating assembly - the crank, basically

He's near Ashtabula. It should be rolling on it's own power by end of the year - meaning all fabrication is done, it's torn down, sent to the dip/coating shop and re-assembled. My money say's it'll be at Canfield next summer.

Looks sweet. How's it going to be geared, since its a driver. I'd really like to have something similiar, someday, but I'm basically too cheap to probably ever do it.

I think the axles are getting 2.73s or maybe 3.31s. He's shooting for 1300rpm at 65mph - dont' know what size tire, probably a 31"

I'm putting a 4BT in my M715 as well. Mine also came from a Frito Lay truck and I wonder how it will go in such a light and small truck. The little 4BT managed to shake that big Grumman step van pretty well when shutting the thing off. I'm curious to see what it will do to my truck :)

Quart of two?

What did he fill the frame with? (oil?)

Common for the salt country guys to fill their framerails with some sort of engine oil to prevent corrosion from the inside.
