: Different BB Balancing question

I have 39x15x15 TSL's on 15x10 wheels on my K5. Put 10 oz of BB's in each one and its smooth up to around 55 to 60 mph. Then it starts hopping and shakeing bad. Should I add more bb's or remove some? Anybody who has messed with the bb balancing please reply.

Thanks

well i put 12 oz in each of my 36" tsls and it works good up to at least 70. thats about all the jeep will do and the balance is better than anything ive tried so far. dont know if that helps you or not?:p

Not BB's, but I'm at 9 golfballs in each of my rear 39.5 TSL's (rears are the bad ones) and it smoothed out a lot. Doesn't do anything for the out of round though.

Depdog and Slagburn.....how much rattling/bonging around do the BBs and golf balls make in the 5~30 mph area?

Zuk, I dont know about the golf balls, but I cant even hear the bb's. When I rolled them around to put them on the truck I could hear them inside, but it was just a slight little hum.

Personally on the BB's I would try more. I dont think it can hurt.

I'm putting at least 15 oz in my 38's...just to be on the safe side.

Went up to 13oz in each wheel and also up to 30 psi. This helped. I can now do about 70 to 75 with not near as bad a vibration as before, this I can live with.

Thanks for the updates depdog!

Are you guys using zinc plated bb's to avoid rust issues? Or not worring about it?

What does the contact patch look like with 30 psi? I run 25-27 in my 36x12.5 TSL's in a similar truck and the tread has worn evenly...I'd worry 30 is too high for a 15" wide tire.

What size and type of BB's did you use?

I can't even hear the golf balls at all. But I have fenderwell headers= chronically fawked exhaust.
I did get mail from Interco today, a 6 oz. balance patch. I think this is the way to go, get the tire internally balanced and whatever your potion is, you'll need less of it....

i went with a pound in each of my 39's they litterally would hop off the road at like 60, it helped a lot, buti wish i had put in another 4-5 oz a piece but at least it is better

oh yeah the only sound i can hear is a swoosh when i stop and the bb's hit the wheel.

I used the Daisy brand bb's, they are silver in color. I dont know what the contact patch is, but my K5 weighs at over 6k lbs so I think its still pretty good. Have not had the tires on there long enough yet to know. I was running my 36" TSL Radials at 35 and they ran and wore good.

Your balance patch WILL fall off if you wheel. Ask me how I know.

Just wanted to update this thread for future use by others in search mode.

I put 16 oz of Zinc Plated BB's in each of my 38x12.5x15 Swamper TSLs on steel wheels. 20 psi pressure.

Works good up to 55 mph.
Honestly havent gone faster than that.

Quick turns (like to avoid idiots pulling out in front of you) at around 35 mph or so produce an out of balance effect in at least one tire.
It is my belief that it is just sending the BB's all out of whack...and they quickly recover.(not a big deal really with large tires at low pressure)

Also a quick tap of the brakes at such speeds can produce the same effect.

I think its sort of like lightly hitting a top when its spinning on a table, and then it eventually stabilizes.

All in all they work well..I will do more high speed testing when I get an inspection sticker, and can take it on the highway without being smacked for it.

HTH someone else.

How many BB's in a pound? (yes I'm serious, just an estimate will do)

Alright let me put it this way I bought a pack of 6000 (4.5mm Daisy) BB's.

I did four tires with ~16oz each.
There are 8 oz left in the pack.

Using 1 lb in each you could get 6 tires worth out of 6000. (~72 oz)

So that makes 1000 BBs to a lb...by my math....I'm not very smart though.
