I want to replacmy clutch fan with electric. I know the common fan is the ford taurus fan from an early 90s 3.8L for all the guys running a smaller rad in jeeps and shit.

Is there a bigger better fan to use if im still running the full size chevy rad?

If you can find one ive run a 4th gen 94-97 Z28 dual fan..Ive had it for years and its been in 3 different race cars and two trucks.

Dont know cfms and all but it has kept from a 440ci 15-1 smallblock cool at 190 to a worn out dodge 318 cool at 160 while towing.

Look for some LS1 fans from a firebird or camaro. They are the dual fan setup as stated above and work great. You can also find the dual fan setups from the newer chevy trucks. My wife's 5.3 avalanche has a very nice electric setup in it.

Search it's been cover alot.
Those little fans push 2k cfms.
I use on in my truck middle of summer in las vegas with a heavy foot in traffic. Had no problems. I did hook it up to a toggle switch as I can't seem to get enough of them

The LS1 F-body fans are 28'' wide. The 2005 up 1/2 ton truck E-fans are 34'' wide.

I run two 89 Cutlass fans with a Industrial fan controller, they keep my 6.2 nice and cool. I think I paid 20 bones each for them at the local junker.

dont mean to be off topic, just looking to find more info. I guess i could search, eh?

Hey grump got the same one. Also comes in cougars and thunder chickens. I've heard they are 5,000 cfm. I also have one out of a ford van that has a similar two speed fan with an extra one which seems to flow around the same

I think the MK8 fan has a different blade design than the taurus fan, different pitch = more CFM, I could be wrong though. From what Ive read the T-Bird has the same fan as an MK8.

I was looking into this before and I found this on a different site. I have both the Mark VIII and Taurus fans. They both use the same two speed motors but the Mark VIII blades are larger and at a different pitch.

Fan info:
LS1 3400cfm @ 33 amps
Taurus 3800cfm @ 33 amps
Mark VIII 4300cfm @ 28 amps

A two speed fan has 3 wires. A ground wire, a low + wire, and a high + wire.

From the looks of it im best to just go with the lincoln fan if steveo s numbers are right. I put a lincoln/taurus fan in my other chev a long time ago never had any problems with it.
Just would have thought chevy would have had something that would fit and pull more air. Im going to look into it myself a bit more, maybe head down to a dealer and go search the local wreckers.

Looks like your questions answered too Grumpy.

IIRC the more desirable one is the 90-95 Taurus and MarkVIII 3.8L, pn 8C607 and I think 8 blades.

It has a flatter motor for better clearance, and a decent shroud. You may have to go to a thinner rad and/or hack your core support and scoot things forward.

well i will say the ford 3.8 2 speed fans does a darn good job of cooling. we have one in my sons K30 with a 454 and it does just fine on low speed.. only need to flick it on high when gettin crazey with the throttle for extendend periods.

Myself and a few friends run the ford windstar fan. Fits really nice.

^^^^^I like that^^^^^^ I think I know what fan setup I am getting. Not bad price if you buy them new either. Part Number: BK 6551943 98 Windstar. I found them at Napa Autoparts for $149

Not sure what the taurus fans run on low, but on high I've read on high setting they are about 3800 CFM. A lot of people use the LS1 fans too. Not sure what year you have but on mine, it's a 96, the radiator was 28 1/2" wide on the core. The diesels were 34". If it's older I'm not sure on the width. I'm happy with my conversion. I got 2 fans and a diesel radiator out of a 94 chev for $165 off craigs list, plus $50 for a good controller. I gained about 1 - 1.5 mpg and the AC works a lot better at low driving speeds. One fan cools ok, but with both running you can watch the temp gauge drop. Ive got 2, 16's and only ran one til I got the new bigger radiator. I don't run warm in the summer wheelin anymore either. Good sized difference from the stock radiator, but fit great. Between the 2 I'm running 5600 CFM.

I can't recall what my setup came off of. I found it on ebay and it fit my larger 34" radiator perfectly and was $100. I'm using a fan relay/sender kit. Truck never gets over 170 in Arizona.

I got a fan off of a 87 Park Ave about 16 inch 2 speed, will that pull enough air for my 84 k20.

I used the Taurus fans in my son's 84 1 ton. His is a mild 454 w/ A/C and runs very cool even in Texas summers (180-190 wheeling it hard!!) Just have to use a REALLY large solenoid for the high side (ford starter solenoids work well). The radiator is a large 2 core aluminum........just my two cents..

I mounted 2 single speed Tauruses on my 4 core in the blazer, 1 cooled it no matter how bad I pushed it.

I have a 2 speed on the rear rad in my Truggy. Low speed full time and it barely gets to temp.

I am running windstars too, they fit almost perfect out of a '95-'98 . They are 30"x18" which leaves about an inch on the bottom uncovered. There is a lot of information on mounting and wiring on ck5.com

I used Hayden fans from the auto parts store, with the control unit. they work great. but if you can find something that works great for cheap, do it. it sounds like the windstar fans are the hot ticket.
