I've come to realize that after hunting with my same rifle since 1986 and killing probably around a 100 deer with it. I am wanting another rifle.

I will probably keep the 7mm-08 caliber, but may also go to 243 Win (I've got a daughter that will be hunting in about 8 years).

My current rifle is a Mossberg 1500 (Howa). It started as a 243 Win, and had one of the very first versions of a Bell Carlson stocks. I had it rebarrelled in 1995 to 7mm-08.

I've always wanted a Model Seven, and think spring when I am 100% debt free (except for mortgage) I'll reward myself by buying one.

99% of all my shot are less than 200 yards, most are around 70 yards. I've been switching it around the last few years using my Marlin 45 colt, Super blackhawk, and other guns. However, when I am serious about going after deer I am taking a scoped rifle.

I just got one in .260 & I love it. Mine's actually a youth model with the synthetic stock, but it's meant for my daughter eventually. .260 is the lowest caliber that comes in factory reduced recoil rounds, so that's what she'll at least start on. In the meantime, her dad has laid claim to the gun & clobbered an opening day doe with a Remington 120 grain boatail. I'm like you, always wanted a model 7. No regrets now that I have one.

Nice. In looking at the specs Im a tad partial to the classic wood stock iffen I were doing the purchase.

If I get one, it will be a wood stock.
If it has a synthetic stock, the price better be a steal.

I just like the idea of carryin a 6.5# rifle (add about a pound for scope).
I don't know what my mossberg 1500 weighs, but I suspect close to 9# with the scope.

How come it is on the wall?
Is it an adult or youth model?
I should be ready in about March. Let me know if you think about it before then.

I've got a youth model stock on my #7.

It fully rocks for a truck/atv/snowmobile gun. In /243, the recoil isn't enough to matter, so the fact that the stock is ~8" to short doesn't really matter. :grinpimp:

I have a Model Seven in .243 I bought when they first came out in '83 or '84. I think .243 is an awesome deer cartridge and this has killed lots of deer! Nice and small and good for carrying or in a stand but plenty accurate for deer. It's one of my favorite guns.

Was real handy in my somewhat cramped deer stand too. I was able to get on target much easier than with my full-size Savage 116.

I am currently borrowing a Model 7 youth in 7mm-08 for my wife's upcoming elk hunt. So far I really like it and I am thinking of picking one up for my wife (and later my daughters).

It's on the wall because it is for sale in my shop, NIB :flipoff2:

I am assuming it is the adult model, although smaller than your standard 700 the LOP is long enough for me.

It is has a very nice wood stock and factory jeweled bolt.

The price tag in the shop is $800, PM for "pirate" price.
