If I remember correctly the aluminum block LS1 weighs about 425 and the 4.0 is about 515 pounds. But thats just off the top of my head.

I would used a 4L60E or 4L80E, I think they are pretty strong and easy to find. You could use a 700R4 if you beefed it up a little. But there are other possibilities as well.

I think there is is an LS1 link in the TECH section that might help. Us could also research www.novak-adapt.com.

The 4L60E is what was designed to be behind them. I would suggest keeping with that and use the Lokar shifter. Engine and Tranny management are easier that way.

I did the 5.7 swap into a CJ7. I searched and searched for a good solution in regards to the adapter for the D300. The AA adapter was going to adda bunch of length that i didn't want. The novak was the shortest but it required gutting the 4L60E and replacing the output shaft. Which meant it was a good time for a rebuild kit.

Just more for you to think about. Look at the adapters for the transfer case closely. Some are cheaper but require more work that can end up costing more in the end.

Read the "5.3 Jeeps" thread in the Jeep Hardcore section. Tons of useful information in there... When you buy, try to get the Engine, Tranny, Computer, Harness and all accessories at the same time... You'll save tons of money and headaches.
