can you still get them? and how much $$ and how good are they?

The Hickey sidewinder was popular back in the 70's.They have not been sold in years.Someone bought the patent and all the remaining parts.I read this in a magazine.....4-wheel & offroad or Four wheeler.If you contact one of these mags. they could give you more info.

from what I understand Advanced Adapters bought the rights to them then stopped making them...(this is just what I heard) There's an old jeep guy here that has some of the original blue prints he uses to get his own replacement parts made..

and they're really slow

Ran a sidewinder on my CJ5---- loved it ! LOTS of cable and at half spool or less, would pull anything !! (full spool, kinda weak).
If you want one , look under the front end on older Mopars in your local junk yard ! There is an article on the Side Winder on-line somewhere that someone sent me- spelled out the demise of Hicky and the sale to Advance Adapter.

I have the chance to get a 4500lb sidewinder, would that be sufficient to pull a yota pickup around?
