Okay ive got a 2001 ford explorer motor in my buggy i built a harness for it and its a failure (stuck in limp mode) so i need to build a new one from scratch.I want somthin thats gonna be reliable. So my question is can i take a wiring harness and all the sensors distributer coil injectors tps intake air temp computers and vacum diaphrams off say an 88 or 89 ford pick up and swap it all on the 01 motor and run a speed density formula or would it be easier to try and build a new 01 harness with a mass air flow meter? Kinda lost here need some help.

I'd grab all the parts/harness from a 89'-93' mustang and use that, lots of support for that swap. I've done lots of EFI swaps off Mustang parts and they've always run great, here's the latest on a 1968 Bronco with a 289.

stick with the explorer setup, theres no distributor on your motor, the computer controls trans functions etc.

Not sure about that but your going to run into other issues. If you kept the 4r70w (if you didnt that may be why its in limp mode, need the codes to tell), your going to need the same computer, or an aftermarket trans controller ($$$). Also the explorer gt40p has a different cam than the stang motors which may or may not cause tuning issues. The biggest issue is trans control, as the 4r70w is all electronic.

Get a hold of the guys over at Western Motorsports, they'll set you up with almost everything you need, in a package that anyone can program. It's speed density setup, and stupidly easy to tune with great support.

I've seen this setup used on things from dune buggy's to helicopters....it works great.

X2 I didn't think about the transmission as part of the swap, most Bronco guys just swap the motor.

does anyone know of a aftermarket company that sells a harness already made or someone here on the board? for the 97 explorer motor or the 2001?

what trans are you running?

your explorer motor can be controlled by a mustang harness rather easily. and yes, a mustang distributor will drop right in- just be sure it's from a roller cam application since you need the steel gear to match the roller cam inside the explorer motor.

contact rjm for the harness, or just ebay a used mustang harness and go with that.
