View Full Version : What is a '95 Dodge 2500 V-10 4x4 worth?

Saw one today at a local dealer for only $9200. This is a standard cab, no frills, 2500 V-10 truck but has 118,000 miles. The truck looks to be in good shape. I'm looking for a tow vehicle for my Jeep and eventually to pull a camp trailer and this seemed like a really good deal for late model 3/4-ton.

doesent sound like that bad of a deal. But after my experence with my 96 (new transmission, head gaskets, and tomorrow all new breaks, including the master cylender) in the past 6 months i have owned it, I dont think I would buy it again. Oh, and BTW, this is a 1500 ST 4x4 with a 318 auto. For a tow rig today I would go buy a mid 90's ford f-350 with a 7.3 and a 5 speed. I love my dodges, but this one is just really getting to me. Hope I helped some. Garrett

sounds a bit high to me especially with the V10. The V10 is a good towing engine but the fuel mileage really sucks( the best I have heard of was 9mpg running empty). I would hold out for the diesel especially for that price.
I'd say watch around for a diesel 2500, you can find them for the same price range 9-12k, and I'd bet it will run alot longer...

I would wait for a Cummins to rear its head. Can't beat a diesel for towing and mileage!
BTW, minimal trouble with my 1500. On the second tranny, but that was my fault (mud and water tends to destroy the internals...)

Well I just picked up a 1995 dodge ram 2500 slt laramie for 2000, and I think its a pretty good deal so I cant really say if thats a fair price because compared to my deal I dont think it is. And It tows just fine I got a horse trailer and I think it did awesome.

It depends on your location. It is not uncommon to see mid to late '90s 1/2t gasser Dodges in the $8 - $10k range up here much less a diesel truck in reasonable shape.
Dodges are really hard to find for sale around here. The people who have them seem to keep them and it isn't that there is a lack of them on the road either. The car lots and newspapers are flooded with Ford and GM stuff however.

Just pray you don't have an injector go bad in your V10.

That is one good thing about TX is there is NO shortage of ANY truck, gas/diesel, auto/stick, Ford/Dodge/Chevy 1/2, 3/4, or 1 ton.

Since this thread has no real use anymore:
By the way, where in N.D. do you live? Many years back, I worked up in Wappeton (sp?), which was south of Fargo and right on the Minnesota border. We were building a corn processing station.

I live in the Fargo/Moorhead area. Not much 4 wheeling ground that is local here, most everything is a pretty good haul to get to. :(

I'll say (at least there in Wappeton (sp?)) it was FLAT, and COLD. I was up there from late April (snow on the ground:eek:) until August (still wearing winter coats in the morning:eek::eek:) Yeah, warmed up some by lunch, but man, I from TX and you know the rest

i know it's an old thread but thought i would add my .02:flipoff2:
i would not recommend the V10. big assed gas HOG. bet the big V8 if you want a gas engine or the diesel.
i paid $6000 back in 03 for mine. seemed like a fair price back then but i wasn't aware of the gas milage. :shaking:

I got a 96 1/2t dodge ram slt laramie w/ a 5.9 and a 46LE w/ a tranny cooler i have a 5.5in fabtech long arm w/ 35's and the thing beats any ford or GM 1/2t on the road in that same era. I have 150k on it and still am running that same running gear w/ now issuse. Maybe i am lucky? It was my dad's and he babied it, but we pulled 90hp field tractors and goose neck w/ 6-10 head (what ever we could get in the trailor) and it did it all w/ relative ease:smokin:...and no i am not exaggerating:flipoff2:. The dam thing runs as good or better then my friends vortechs w/ equivelent mileage. I don't understand why people were bagging the 1/2 ton...

One, I think the topic was the 3/4 ton V-10, not the 5.9 1/2 ton:flipoff2: Second, maybe you were the lucky one??? It seems, that everyone has an opinion on what is great, what sucks, etc....You had a good truck, cool. I don't think anyone would intentionally say their truck was a piece of shit, ESPECIALLY if it was a good one, so i would be inclined to believe those that have said their truck sucked, it really did. Anymore questions?:D
EDIT: I guess some people did chime in on the 1/2 ton, "my bad"
