: '94 1500 Torque conv not locking...

Hey all,

My tow rig, a '94 1500 with the 5.9L gas engine, has a torque converter that locks up intermittantly. Anyone know of an easy fix? Sometimes it locks up, sometimes it doesn't. Is there maybe a loose connection? I don't know crap about auto trannies, so any help is very appreciated. The cruise control doesn't work when the convertor isn't locked up. I can't seem to duplicate whatever it is that makes it suddenly lock up normally, but most of the time it slips. Fluid is good, new filter. Good acceleration and shifting- no slipping off the line or between shifts, just not locking up. I am mystified. Thanks for any help.

The TC lockup selenoid is a known failure point. It is either that or the TC itself.

Yup!... There's a rubber seal around the plunger that slides over to engage... It's prone to leaking...

97 and up trannies have the redesigned unit.

Not being a 2wd dude or anything... BUT I'd assume the "innards" are the same.

Really only the output shaft is the difference between the 2wd and 4wd tranny.

Thank you both for the help. I will try and change out the solenoid and see if that takes care of it.
